Good tips but I believe maximum liability when fraud involved is $50 bucks...major card co's $0

I'm not positive on all credit card co. procedures but years ago when my card was lost and used.(2k thereabouts in "fraud" charges)...
I didn't realize until received my bill.
I called customer service and charges were completely removed and fee waived.I had to sign an affidavit and return to card co.

Just to addd to your tips though...

Good article in NY Times about how generation X not being street wise and falling prey to new wave of muggings in big city environments.(Btw, there is free registation on the NY time web site to have access to their newspaper articles)
Case in point would be the young lady here a few weeks ago posting about her late night subway ride alone. Not a good idea!

Also...Learned a long time ago to keep wallet and cash seperate in both FRONT pockets.It took some getting used too but its like clockwork for me now.
