(This is very New York centric and not overtly political in a left-wing vs. right-wing way so am deliberately posting in the NY Forum; moderator, please move to Politics if I am in error.)

In response to recent legislation sent to Bloomberg, making it illegal for taxi drivers to transport  anyone that dresses like a prostitute, I would like to offer the following amendments:

1) Fine for any taxi driver picking up someone dressed like a pimp.

2) Fine for any taxi driver picking up someone in an expensive suit (could be a mobster).

3) Fine any taxi driver picking up someone morbidly-obese (uses too much fuel; hostile to the environment).

4) Fine for any taxi driver for picking up someone carrying more than 2K in cash (could be a bank robber).

5) Fine for any taxi driver for picking-up an adult with a child (could be a kidnapper).

6) Fine for an taxi driver picking up someone who does not speak English and does not have papers (could be an illegal immigrant).

7) Fine for any taxi driver picking up someone with vegetables (could be attempting to ultimately transport vegetables to a different country and same vegetables could be harboring dangerous pests).

And, no... this doesn't begin to address the average 14 year old girl that dresses provocatively...

It seems the article may have been misunderstood. It's illegal for drivers to 'promote' prostitution. This has nothing to do with a dress code. The typical scenario likely involved guys asking drivers where strip clubs, or a good time, could be found. And, instead of taking them to a club, they recommend the agency.

This is very common practice in most countries where prostitution is legal (and likely illegal as well—though I haven't experienced it). The driver does so because they receive a tip from the agency if they bring in customers.

When I'm out in NYC at night, all i see are hot women in tight micro-minis and stilettos. They can't ALL be escorts!

Some of the other ones:

1.  Proposal to ban any "sugary drinks" greater than 16 oz.  So if you go to a movie theater, you need to buy several 16 oz. drinks instead of one big one.

2.  Taking out sections of Broadway through Times Square and Herald Square to make them seating places for pedestrians instead of letting cabs go through.

3.  Putting in bicycle lanes in the city and taking out car lanes, thus further stifling the flow of traffic.

4.  The mayor being completely out of pocket two Christmases ago when a snowstorm crippled the city and had power out in the outer boroughs for about a week or so.  The mayor declined to say where he was, though records show that one of his private jets was in Bermuda, where he has a home.

Just another long line of craziness from our billlionaire, out of touch mayor.

not picking up women who are dressed like prostitutes. It says some drivers were finding prostitutes clients and taking them to see them. That is what they are calling promoting prostitution, NOT the way a random woman in the city hailing a cab who is dressed like a prostitute hailing a cab.

I had a "lovely" experience a few years back coming home from the East Village - the cabbie kept calling me a hooker (I was in no way working that night) and followed me into my apartment building b/c I had to grab him cash as he claimed his CC machine was not working. Was definitely glad my SO was home cause who knows how that would have ended otherwise.

Girls in NY dress like streetwalkers when they go out  - known fact.
