So I was first in NYC last month and I love it! Now, I am visiting again this month and even going to Long Island (Westbury) for the first time. I like to treat myself each visit to something "touristy" and a good, well known restaurant. I pretty much like all kinds of food. When in Midtown East and Long Island, where are some sights I should visit or restaurants I should try. I look forward to everyone's input. Thanks.
• Empire State Building Observatory. I used to work there. On a cold, crisp clear day, it really is something to see. • Museum of Modern Art. Very cool to trip out on some crazy modern art. • Metropolitan Museum of Art. Totally the opposite of MOMA, a great collection of historic art. I used to work there too and in the time I worked there, I always found something new about The Met.
There's soooo many more touristy things to do. Enjoy!

The Frick and the Morgan are both unique, small museums which have extraordinary art, in the setting of the mansions of the great early 20th century robber barrons, so if you are not interested in the art, at least you can enjoy the over the top surrounding. And Peter Luger's in Williamsburg , Brooklyn is the classic New York steakhourse.
The thing is it really is a pretty cool place. Located just a couple blocks from the Empire State Building on 5th Ave. Nothing seedy about it at all. No painted windows etc. In fact it is very open and bright. Always fun to observe uptight tourist couples from the midwest who slip in to take a look because they are pretty sure no one back home will ever know.
The museum tour is OK but not great. But the gift shop is worth the trip. I always pick up a few items there when I'm in NYC. My favorite to gift to the ladies I see are white socks that say "Fuck my socks off" ! I always get a smile with those. Been waiting for one of my faves to wear them in an ad pic....lol.
BTW...the best restaurant is the one you are going to stumble upon totally on your own. It will be small....interesting menu and family owned. I kinda liked The Oyster Bar which was down the street from The London hotel....near The Ed Sullivan Theater [ David Letterman].

Like a work colleague of mine should have done back in 1995 when he went to pay the bill with his AMEX card and was told "Sorry sir we don't accept credit cards here"
The place serves a choice of like 3 appetizers, 1 kind of steak, and 3 vegetables, charges a fortune for their food and wines, but can't be bothered taking a 2.5% hit for accepting credit cards from their patrons (many of which are there expensing business dinners)?
Haven't been back since 1995 and never will, regardless of who is paying the bill
Too many other great restaurants in NY these days...
