Williamsburg Brooklyn has some great views of the city - you can get a great picture of the downtown and uptown skyline from the Williamsburg bridge
The lower east side has great street art as does Williamsburg in Brooklyn Soho is where the cobblestone streets are and they are gorgeous I avoid time square at all cost but I am sure it is pretty at night lol
I am very interested in traveling to NYC to shoot. I want to shoot Time Square at night .... get a feel for the city and experience life as a New Yorker. where is the best area to stay and view all aspects of the city. Ive got a brand new lens thats just dieing to shoot a great city skyline!
I havent been to NY in over 25 yrs Im overdue for a visit!!
I would stay in the city...midtown..and rent a bike.. to me, the best views are along the Hudson River..either direction..(lets not forget central park)
I start at 59th street and depending on my mood to make a left or a right...If I make a right I can ride to the twin towers and see all the views ..The bike path goes straight there..and If i choose to make a left and go past the light house by the George Washington bridge heading up the Hudson its like the country with the views of New Jersey... This weekend I was lucky enough to see our visiting whale hanging around. Although I am not a camera person, I did get a small pic of his spout blowing a mist.. was so cool.. best thing about Manhattan is you never know what you will see just walking or riding around.
Either way, have a Wonderful time and enjoy our fair city...
P.S. Check the weather ...when bike riding you get warm quick..as I am use to the cold I dont have issues with it..Layer up..The weather here has been doing flip-flops..lol
For some great skyline views I would go to either Dumbo in Brooklyn, specifically Brooklyn Bridge Park. You can get a great view of the East side of Manhattan. For some great West side shots I would go to Jersey. There are several spots along the river in Jersey that can give you great skyline views. Here is a short list: Fort Lee,NJ: Ross Dock Park and Fort Lee Historic Park- Both will give you views of the Upper West Side. Ross Dock is on the river and gives you great views of the George Washington Bridge. Fort Lee Historic Park is high up the cliff and will give you just a different persepctive. Edgewater,NJ: Brings you further down the river. There is a walkinf path along the river. Best spot is to go down by the Target in Edgewater and walk over to the river. Weehawken, NJ - Another high view. Go to Hamilton Park on Blvd East. Great views of midtown at night. Everything is lit up. You actually can striaght down 42nd street high up and from across the river. Pretty cool. Hoboken, NJ - Frank Sinatra Park gives you the classic view of the Lower west side where the Trade Center. The park is great for both day and night shots.
