Hi all, Posting here since its more specific to NY than the legal corner.  

I need to take someone to small claims court in NYC (NOT related to anything in the hobby, thank goodness!)  

Has anyone done this recently? Successfully? The amount is about $5k (yes I have proof it was a loan, not a gift).  

The person has been completely unresponsive to letters and calls from my CPA.

I have experience with both Small Claims and Civil courts in NYC.  NYC.gov provides very user-friendly information that will walk you through every step of the process.  If legal advice is needed, you can get a consultation for $35 through the NYC Bar Association.  

I can say that every experience I have had with the courts and the Bar Association has been very positive.  The system is set up to be easily accessible and relatively simple to negotiate - there is no need to be intimidated!  - MM
