Hi all!... I have a couple questions about offering (sensual) massage in NYC. I am wondering if anyone knows about any prohibitions regarding offering massage in NYC/the state of NY. I understand each state has different guidelines on what can be offered with massage and by whom, but in CA (where I am at) its quite liberal. Since I am contemplating a possible move to NYC I'd like to get some background on this.

I am trained in Swedish and presently taking Thai massage courses, but I don't wish to become "certified" out here since each city does their own thing (no state requirements) and in SF you have to pay over $1000 and register with the SFPD. Just wondering what the deal is in NYC, since I see massage on Erosguide listed under "bodyrubs". Thanks!

You can only legally charge for a massage in New York if you have a license.  The type of license depends on the work you do.  The most difficult, but the one with the greatest scope takes around 3 years to get.  There are shorter courses that give you a license to touch another person, but then it gets chancier.  And any sexual release is against the law, no matter what your license.  That is the law.  In practice, these days, it seems as if it is not a high law enforcement priority.  But that could change.  Good luck.

believe it or not, the New York law as relates to massage practitioners, as opposed to physical therapists, states that they may use no device which connected to an electrical cord or operated by battery.... now, WHO concocted that ?

However, the way most providers get around the law is calling a massage, a "bodyrub" or "bodyworks".

If you are someone who would advertise on Eros, you should be fine without a license.  If you want to work at a legit spa, you'll need a license.
