Can anybody give me any tips about the Grand Central Station area?

What is within walking distance?

I'm looking for restaurants and sights to see.. Is the Empire State Building close by?

How far is it to East 83rd street from Grand Central Station?  How long would it take to walk?

Excuse the questions.. I've only been to New York twice before.. and this is my first time alone..

Hello Naadia amnd welcome to NYC,
Grand Central is on the east side on 42nd street. Across the street is teh Crysler building.  There are lots of restaurants all over NYC.  YOur best bet up to 83rd is a taxi or the subway - I would recommend the cab if you are new to the subway system in NYC.  Are you hosting any incall? Would love to see you.
