I ended up getting no action last week after trying my best to find a top notch provider.  

So what went wrong - I was trying to schedule just a couple of hours in advance and it was a busy evening.  Plain and simple.  

I would describe the experience as flakey city.  Lots of "I will call you right back" and that sort of thing.  

I travel a lot for business and I am in nyc every few weeks.  Sometimes I want to have company and sometimes I can book well ahead but more often than not my schedule is unpredictable and I will only have a couple of hours notice.  

So what is a fella to do?  Are last minute outcall appointments just not in fashion anymore?  I usually go for upscale providers and I guess I am just trying to find an agency or something that accommodates these types of appointments.  Do I throw in the towel and go AMP if it's last minute or what

I have had this problems too - just like what you mentioned, infact I had to cancel a couple of appointments which I made well in advance because of unpredicted schedule. So, now some of them wouldnt even return the calls - may be I am "blacklisted" or something ! Embarrassing really to be in that situation because of no fault of mine.. so that prompts one to go online and look for those risky sites where you dont know whats what ...

I have a job where I can pick my hours. If I get no requests I choose to work. I have a hard time accommodating clients last minute if I need to log my hours for my "real" job. If a client asks for a last minute appointment and I can not verify his references right away I will also decline. One thing you can do is send all of your information upfront. This saves providers time and helps verify information that will lead to accommodating the last minute request. I suggest (unless you already do) sending the provider at least two references email addresses and websites along with your appointment location and time. If you are already taking this approach I suppose you are having bad luck.

I always screen ... absolutely no exceptions. Often times the last minute requests do not allow enough time for referrences to respond to ref checks and (not that you do this) sometimes the last minute guys just want an appointment without sharing any of their information at all ... because they want to be "discreet".  

Anyhow, sending your screening info with your request (as mentioned above) allows for an expeditied verification process enabling a provide to accomadate a last minute request.  

I see guys last minute, all the time. But never without screening.

The problem with local girls is, they may have other daily life stuff going on and don't have a hotel or anything.  Touring providers, however, are in town to meet clients so they're already set up and looking for bookings.  As others have mentioned, last minute screening is also tough so you should contact a girl or two in advance and let them pre-screen you.  A lot of girls are wary of last minute requests esp with no (or vague) references because it just gives off a vibe of "weirdo" or "dangerous" or "cop".  Not saying you are any of these but that's what I assume when someone hasnt planned a date ahead of time.

Landing a last-min appointment with me is next to impossible!  I'm independent and also don't keep a permanent incall location, so almost everyone has to pre-book.  I don't make my hotel reservation until I already have a client (or clientS on a good day) confirmed, then re-confirm on the morning-of.  If I already had a client scheduled and confirmed for the day, already had my hotel room, and a last-minute request came in and (magically) his references responded in time, and his schedule fit around the pre-booked client, then I'd gladly accommodate.  But will I even catch the last-minute email that comes in around noon if I'm busy spending the early afternoon going through my beauty routine to prepare for the late-afternoon pre-booking?  Will I have time to read the responses from last-minute-man's references if I'm busy with my pre-booked gentleman?  By then, it's evening... and his ideal time has probably been cut too close for things to work out.  See how many variables have to fall into place before we indies can swing this?

Many of us aren't just super-human-bionic-women that hop out of bed already dolled up, shower-fresh, shaven, and without chores, errands to run, or pre-existing obligations to friends, family, or other clients.  

An agency is going to be your best bet, most likely, because they do have the advantage of having a booking agent taking calls while their ladies are on the job.  For indies, especially those of us working out of hotels, it's tough.  As far as contacting a touring girl, this *could* work out, but lots of touring girls pre-book their trip otherwise it may not be worth it to even get on the plane.  Sometimes she'll have a cancellation and some time may open up, or she may get motivated to take just one more.

Even when I'm on tour I plan my day in the mornings, before noon for the most part.  Either I'm already booked for the afternoon or evening, or I might make other plans since I had some free time that I wont want to change.

If you contact me in the morning for a same day appointment you will probably have a 75% chance of booking an appointment. If you call in the afternoon or evening, that probably drops to about 15% for me.  Maybe that's just me.

Pre-booking at least the day before is always best.  When possible, of course.

Find an upscale provider you think you'd like and prescreen with her (and several others).  Send your references, have them make sure you are OK, tell them your circumstances ahead of time about your flakey schedule but DON'T MAKE A DATE.  Just tell them you will call them when you are available and that you hope they will be too.  With several options to choose from, all pre-screened and aware that it might be a short notice type thing, you might have a chance of seeing one of them.  The biggest thing is communication.  Ensure she feels safe with you and/or are a repeat customer and it will be more likely you will find someone available.  The days of same day, 1 hour notice incalls are few and far between unless you go with agency girls and aren't picky about which girl is available at any one time.  Its not impossible, but it is improbable that you will find an independent willing to set up an incall on a cold call like you suggest.  
The upshot is, find a few gals first, let them screen you, see them, then repeat with them as often as you can to avoid further screening.  Being familiar ALWAYS speeds up response time in my experience.

While short notice appointments are harder to get, they are by no means not possible.

Contact a few women in NYC that you would be interested, explain that you travel to NYC, but your schedule is unpredictable.  Ask if they might be ok with you trying to book last minute, as long as you get pre-verified.

Some will tell you they never take appointments with short notice, or they always book up early.  However, many will tell you not to expect them to be available, but it doesn't hurt to ask.  

Then, when you want to schedule, since you already introduced yourself and got pre-verified, there is no waiting for verification.  It removes an obstacle and comes down to her availability.

You still might not get anyone, but you have a better chance.

Also, check the sires that offer "available now" sections.

Shot. I personally have my days and nights planned out. If I'm not busy with a client I most certainly am with family or busy with my real job.  
Most providers live double lives don't forget. Planning is essential to getting exactly what you want when you want it.  

The process of verifying a client is very time consuming and typically takes 24 to 48 hours. Some providers respond to my verification requests within minutes while others take days to respond. Here lies the problem. If a guy is whitelisted it usually speeds up the process.
