Hi Guys .. I am going to meet a lady next week in Manhattan. Unfortunately she is staying in a hotel where the elevator access is controlled through room keys. Although we both are of same age, I am an east indian and she is a blonde. I am wondering whether it will look odd, if I wait in the lobby and she comes down and picks me up ...
Which would be better

1) Wait in the lobby for her to come and get me up

or

2) Meet for drinks in a nearby bar for 10-15 mins and then get into the hotel together ?

Hotels are used to see all kind of people meeting each other at their lobbies.
I don't think they will ever take a second look - unless she makes you wait for too long and you wear a 'guilty' kind of body language.
If you act normal, like you are waiting for a friend and not fidgeting/looking suspicious....you will be fine.
Also, drinks nearby is a good option, if the lady agree on meeting somewhere else.

That's all you have to do.

Just ask her if she would like to meet at the bar for drinks first some providers are open to it some are not.
If she does not want to have a drink agree on a place to meet in the hotel and go up together.
As long as you and your guest are dressed and acting appropriately I do not see you having a problem.
I agree with Betty hotels see tons of people come and go all the time I don't see you and the provider's race cause a person to pause.

Almost all the hotels I stay at in NY have elevators that require keys. And I'm pretty sure when I'm meeting a hot young babe in the bar or lobby most drooling onlookers are simply thinking

what someone else is doing. We are more about me and mine as selfish as it seems, it tends to pay off in this business....

There are so many strange things you see in Manhattan on a daily basis, you two will hardly go noticed..


so unless its 3 am..I would not worry

This was taken on the corner of fulton and broadway (downtown manhattan) in the middle of the day, people glanced, but tourists were more fasinated then Nu Yawkas..

for the lobby.  If she comes downstairs in a mainstream hotel dressed like a stripper, grabs your crotch and drags you into the elevator that will draw more attention than if she comes down in a business-like or tourist-like outfit and you both enter the elevator showing some restraint until you get into the room.  Besides, it isn't unusual to go over tomorrow morning's presentation the night before.

Likewise, she probably doesn't want YOU to out HER or embarrass her and get her thrown out of the hotel or worse (blacklisted by the hotel chain) for bringing jerks onto the premises. "Hay guys!  Look what I got!!" would be inappropriate in a high class hotel.

I guess you could ask her ahead of time what she prefers and plans to do.

This is New York, we are very diverse !
Also, you are NOT paying for chit-chat in a bar with her clothes on ... unless you are into that.
