I don't want to review the guy who changed the oil in my car. I don't want to review a call for tech support. I don't need to "like" the local pizza place on Facebook. Was that as fun as a date?
I know this is way off topic, but I raise it here because hobbying/providing fees are based on the value of one's time.
I received yet another survey (this time by mail) from a company who recently provided a service to me. They want me to spend my time, free of charge, to complete their customer satisfaction survey. These surveys have become incessant, be they email, phone, or mail. Some try to entice me with the promise of the possibility of a drawing for a gift card. I get the feeling they are not so much gauging satisfaction as looking for bragging rites in advertising. "#1 in customer satisfaction in the Tri-State Area!!!"
I'm sorry, but I've had enough and refuse to do this for free. Everybody involved is getting paid, why shouldn't I? Am I being too mercenary about this? Does anyone else feel this way?
I rarely/never give feedback but recently completed a survey a hotel sent to me. The hotel is great so I really complimented them, but did complain about my room service breakfast which was disgusting and toast so hard that it hurt my lip. Anyway, their manager emailed me back within an hour and comped the $35? meal off my bill which was a nice surprise.
So if you're ever bored, fill out the hotel surveys!

this way when I look at reviews to get a sense of providers I hope that others are being as honest as I try to be. Naive I know, but still there in the back of my mind. Also, if I have a really good time I want my my provider to make more money so she stays in business to continue to be available if I ever want to see her again. 8s and 9's from me are outstanding reviews IMHO and reflect excellence. One in a lifetime 10's, well, I hope to live a lot longer and haven't found perfection... Yet.
As far as product or service reviews that aren't in p4p, well, if I have time to kill I might answer a survey or post something on a review blurb if I really really like why I got, otherwise I generally don't bother.
There is a big difference here. It's rare that I have any personal contact at all with the company asking for the survey. I called my cable company for help (which was fixed over the phone) and they want me to comment on a job they're supposed to do anyway. Provider reviews are an entirely different story. And if you don't know the difference between seeing a girl and calling the cable company......well....
