I have Verizon service and am happy with them. But Sprint now offers unlimited talk, text, data for $50 less than Verizon....However, when I had Sprint 10 years ago the reception and service was terrible. Saving $50 per month is tempting but not if Sprint is as bad as they used to be. I'm wondering if there are any Sprint users here and what kind of experience they've had.
It's a regional thing. When i signed with Sprint in Western NY, service was great. When i moved back to the NY metro area in 2007 service was terrible. Text messages took forever. I switched to Verizon. They're more expensive for a reason. Their system is more expansive. But as more and more people get more phones with more features, both systems can get booged down in heavy populated areas. I do get more dropped calls than i used to. It may be Verizon's fault, or the person's carrier at the other end. Verizon's better, but no system is perfect.
All carriers are good in some locations and bad in others.
While AT&T may be great if you are a big traveller, if you spend 90% of your time in an area where they have poor coverage, then it's not the right carrier for you.
In Manhattan, aside from dropped calls, the data connections tend to be poor as well, though I have to admit, I am still on an iPhone 4S, so don't have experience with their 4G service
I travel around the US frequently, and have used both AT&T and Verizon. Hands down, nationally, Verizon has better service, in texts, calls, and data. When I formerly had AT&T and was in NYC, I would receive texts hours after they were sent. Data speeds were pitiful, and there were many areas, such as Grand Central, where I had no service at all. They are better on the west coast than here. Verizon is by no means perfect, but with the exception of a few places in the southwest, I have had little problem with them.
My friend is currently visiting NYC from out of town and staying at a hotel by Times Square. His work cell which is on Sprint, has no signal. His personal cell which is on Verizon works perfectly fine.
Especially in NJ. Signals are weak in many places, and 3G and 4G doesn't work as well here as elsewhere. Sprint works well when I travel, but the weak signals, and slow internet connections at home are an issue. I am definitely switching over to Verizon when my contract runs out in a few months, regardless of the higher costs.
BTW, Sprint does work better in NYC than NJ in my experience,
Charm and a reliable cell phone are important in this hobby. The fact that they try to be the best, have all the skills, are still eager and youthful, and are simply the best, can't be beat. You'd know all that, Suzanne ! Long time friend, need to see you again after Labor Day.
