Been at the hobby for a while and try to be careful but got freaked out today with a provider I won't name. Goes like this. Made an appointment. The provider asked for a confirm the day before but when I tried to send a confirm email, the email kept getting bounced back, repeatedly (at least 6 times).  Finally sent a PM through the service I made the appointment and got a response from the provider asking me if I'd like to set up an appointment - like she didn't realize we already had an appointment. Sent her an email explaining we already had an appointment - which bounced back - so sent another PM and she responded that the appointment was confirmed. Got to the hotel today and as I was walking through the lobby, when a guy looking very LE aggressively stopped me and asked what I was looking for. I said the elevator.  He pointed me to them and keep watching me.  Get to the room, she opens the door, fully dressed, and I reach out for a hug and she backs up and doesn't touch me.  We sit on the couch making small talk for 5 minutes and then she asks me "What do you like, what would you like to do?"  Totally freaked out at this point, I say a back rub.  She points to the bed, I lay down and she rubs my back for 15 minutes, the whole time never taking her clothes off, never touches me below my waist and asks me again "what do you want baby".  Alarm bells ringing, I tell her I'm not feeling well and have to go and that she should never ask questions like "what do you want".  Her response is "Well, I just wanted to know what you like baby".  At this point, I think she is definitely LE or just plain stupid.  I leave and don't ask for the money back to avoid a scene.  Was I just being paranoid?

Being paranoid?  Most likely.  Had it been a sting I doubt you would have walked out of that room without LE ruining your day.

I would not in any way call you paranoid. Glad you went with your gut instincts and didn't say anything or even reply. I've been doing this long enough to know that LE can do many things (not textbook) to make a collar. But they need you to say or do something that is going to stick and not get thrown out in court.  

Very early on when I first got into this, I was super wet behind the ears. I got caught up in something similar but WAS NOT arrested simply because I didn't say what I guess should have been said. Before the undercover slid into the bathroom he asked me "Do you have protection?" I simply said "I keep a taser?" and laughed. When he asked me "Do you do greek? " Honestly, not even understanding what that was at the time (but knew it had something to do with sex), I replied "If you're hungry, there's a nice tavern across the street we can visit and then come back if you like". Apparently my answers weren't what they were looking for. When I got the loud knock on the door as 3 more rushed in like I had a rifle aimed out the window, made me have a seat as one checked my arm (I suppose for tracks), while asking me who I worked for. I said "no one" , while another asked "Hey, when he asked you if you did greek, why did you not answer?"  I turned to him and asked "WOW, are you hungry too?" Needless to say, they had nothing. and simply my ad wasn't one that said will do this or that.  
They did issue me a citation, left and eventually I left as well. I went to court a couple of months later and the Judge seemed to be more frustrated with LE. My case was dismissed and yrs later I had it expunged so it wouldn't show even a dismissal. Of course I could always say I got caught up and explain my way out, but why bother. I learned so much from that, that it changed how I did things from that point on. I'm glad it happened though, it made me more aware of the mistakes that both clients and providers make.  

I will say this, he was a quick talker and hesitated on a hug or kiss much in the same manner. However, being a man he removed his shirt but nothing else as I suggested he get comfortable. So, no you are not paranoid. Cautious is more like it.

After thinking about this for a few days, I still think I probably dodged a bullet.  Have never had those string of things happen to me -- too many coincidences that appeared suspicious.  Plus been reading how NYC cops are leaving providers alone and going after clients.  If a provider won't kiss me or show me some flesh and keeps asking me LE type questions, I'm out of there.  Thanks to everyone who responded.

The statutes in NY only require "intent". So no money has to change hands and no act has to be performed.

I'm sure in some counties they want a little more to go on to result in a successful prosecution, but the OP could have been arrested as soo as he walked into the room depending on what the lead up was to getting there (answering an ad, emails discussion, etc.)

Years ago, I saw some TV-type video shows (maybe "Cops"?) of takedowns during sting operations. I don't know the jurisdictions, but it was basically: guy shows up at motel room door; policewoman in civvies opens door or says, "Come in."; guy takes two steps into the room; six 180+ pound cops flatten the guy to the floor screaming "Show me your hands! Show me your hands!" "Do not move! Do not move!" They cuff him behind his back and then they peel him off the floor. Then they reset the room and cameras for the next guy to get caught in the sting.
