I was wondering if anyone had any good recommendations for restaurants in NYC?  Preferably something with an intimate setting.  

Sort of a last minute rendezvous so any place that requires extensive advanced reservations are out.

Pretty much any type of cuisine:
Italian, French, Sushi, Thai, Nouveau

Any red wine lovers?  Would appreciate recommendations and a restaurant with an impressive list.

Hello, W hotes are good in terms of atmosphere and booking.  Really good wine places need advanced booking.  Morrell Wine Bar in Rockefeller Ctr. is supposedly the best.  In general, try opentable.com for reservations/ideas.

i've been all over NY restaurants. Le cirque, four seasons, quilted giraffe, rainbow room, bouley, etc etc..

of course, the above are the best, but it depends on what your looking for.

i found the Marriott Marquis (45th/7th) to have some great casual restaurants, but im not very fussy. Encore, the view, JW's steakhouse (not sure if theyre still around) are a few.

Otherwise, just walk around midtown. There are a lot of nice places.

if you want incredibly fancy/the best, try the four seasons or something. I know last time i ate there i was able to get reservations the same day.

Cru, Veritas, and One if by Land Two if by Sea (aka One if by Land TIBS). Veritas' owners are serious collectors and turned over 40,000 of their own cellared bottles to the restaurant. The list is overwhelmingly red, with strong choices from Burgundy, Bordeaux, and Napa. The list is vast and covers the rest of the world as well.  Cru, also has a strong list.  One if by Land TIBS is probably the most romantic classic "old world NYC" restaurant. It is housed in what used to be Aaron Burr's house (downtown), and has multiple fireplaces, romantic piano, classic dishes, and a well chosen "carte du vin". (It's especially nice this time of year).  You won't go wrong at any of them. Footnote: Vong is great for Thai/Fusion and has a pretty deep list (and Jean Georges Vongerichten is a world class chef). My only reservation about sending you there is (in my estimation), the fact that Thai food and red wine is like oil and water-they don't mix. Thai cuisine is much better suited to a spicy white grape like   Guwurtztraminer. It's nice to know there are other oenophiles on the board!  Enjoy- Bon Appetit !!!

Can I get a glass of Boones farm apple wine at any of those places?
I just love the half bodied efervescent sour taste...And a nice high!!!...nevermind the headache and sour stomach later.

If not...a glass of Schlitz on tap will do just fine.

You never mentioned, Did you ever try the bottle of Wine with Roses? Mr wine man lol!

You might consider Cafe De Artiste which is very romantic.

THE BOX TREE on east 47th off of 3rd Ave.  The most intimate restaurant you will ever go to.  Only 12 tables, service is fanastic, food is incredible, atmosphere secluded/intimate.  Dinner w/o wine runs about $200.

paradou, little w. 12th st in the meatpacking district (ok ha ha) little french place,can walk in,garden room in back.  trust me.....

Babbo's on Waverly Place great great food, solid interesting wine list & nice room.  Everybody thinks reservations are a must but you can call that day and get lucky or better yet walk-in they have a nice bar area and tables in front that are usually available with no more than 1/2 - 3/4 hour wait max.

Haven't yet gone to the one in Palm Springs, but I believe the one in San Francisco was best known for their chocolate dessert! *chuckles*  

And what are you doing here in NY?  Are you following me again?

Had you told me earlier

I would have loved to join you, it sounds like a lovely place.  I can see from the menu why you thought of me.  And knowing what you like to eat, it looks like I’d be the only one stuffing my face  No worries as that will not be one of the choices.

We both have our own lives to lead but I wish it wasn’t so difficult for us to connect.  

BTW, how funny it is seeing you post here!  Caught me a bit off guard.  Never knew you would!

You've reduced me to posting replies here - only yours, of course, and it's the only way I can get to you these days.  Once again, you've gotten me to do things I've vowed I never would. So, I guess, I'll have to suck it up.  By the way, the tuna fish commentary going back and forth is quite discusting. BTW - what's with the xoxo?  I thought we've progressed farther than that

If you want cool hip and romantic try Il Buco on Bond near Lafayette.  They have a wine cellar with a couple tables downstairs too.  I also like Danal on 10th b/w 3rd and 4th, although they don't have a great winelist.  Veritas is known for its winelist and it isn't that hard to get in.  Grammercy Tavern is good and there is a place right next door to it for drinks/champagne which is very discreet and romantic (sorry the name slips my mind.)  Asia de Cuba is like a scene but imho is no where near romantic.  Le Bernadin is pricey but elegant with fantastic seafood and great winelist.  Bon apetite

First, how about a few days at the end of December like we had originally planned?  I would love to come out there to see you.  It's difficult beyond just scheduling... you know that. But we can try to see if we can make it work.

Second, the "tuna-can" (not fish) is actually not disgusting as it not a metaphor to decribe a sexual organ, which I'm guessing you might have mistaken it for If it were I'd find it a bit repulsive myself.

Third, you can get a hold of me.  I've just been keeping myself extremely busy these days.  So busy that I hardly even have time to think!

Last.  Yes, we've progressed beyond that.  You don't have to reply to this, you have my personal contact.

Judging by your latest personal correspondence, I wish you all the best with "tuna cans", "champagne", "roses" and "millionaires" that may come your way. Obviously, those things are more important to you than "who loves kitty", "ya ya ya", "bats" or "U2"...
