Orchard Corset at 157 Orchard St, New York, NY 10002-2214 (212) 674-0786 is an old-fashioned store with an affiliated web site, too.  It's the type place where the old woman behind the counter can tell a woman's size when she walks in the door and will call out to the guy in the back who can find the box even if the lights are out.  These people know there merchandise because they've been doing it for years.  They sell not just functional garments that only the husband will see for a few minutes as the wife dresses in the morning or undresses in the evening.  There are a lot of brand names and attractive garments, too.  The web site has a greater selection than the physical store.

Where the best lingire & costume stores are :)  I am looking for places that have edgy, unique styles. As long as it is not like Victoria Secret; we are doing good!  Thanks for any helpful info!

La Petite Coquette at 51 University Place is the best in the city, in this connoisseur's opinion.  There's nothing at all on West 4th Street, except restaurants--I'm not sure what the previous poster was thinking of.

They are not the greatest....Their inventory is basically what you can find online ---stuff in prepackaged boxes and all of it is overpriced. However, You can also find some interesting things (fetish) at these shops, but again it can all be found online for cheaper......
