Wake up. You sound like a Democrat politician defending your shitty laws. Crime, and subway crime in particular, is absolutely up… so this pushback on people who give a damn is really stupid. I don’t know exactly who you’re trying to defend.

I’m in NYC often all times of day , night,  just a matter of being cautious , like everywhere else. Be mindful but don’t stop living !
The fear society tries to put in people is  insane.
I’m also in Chicago and guess what , it’s all good !
Live life . Stay cautious .
Go eat out …..

Ask the concierge at your hotel. That's what they get paid to do (... by the local restaurants :-)

Answers might also depend on where you'll be staying. (What neighborhood? See map.) Also, are you comfortable traveling in NYC? I mean, some people staying on the Upper West Side (blue box, upper left) have no problem hopping the subway to meet friends and eat at a restaurant in Chinatown (tiny blue box, bottom center; 30 to 40 minutes by subway) or Chinatown in Queens (not on the map; 40-60 minutes by subway) or even head over to Brooklyn (30 to 40 minutes by subway).

These boards are for sharing information in our pursuit pleasurable activities. It would be in everyone’s best interest to political positions out of the conversation.  For the record 10 of the top 12 states with highest crime record are red states.

You said it's best to keep politics out, then ended with a political statement. How about anyone that wants to talk politics, be they Progressive or Conservative,  go to the P&R board to do so. Fair enough all?
