This is the first time a client pay me with a check. Is it ok to accept personal check from a client?

IF you know them.. why not.. If its a first and it bounces.. dont get mad.. you have  ONE YEAR with most banks to resubmit funds.. The bouncey wouncey check writers sometimes get a nice surprise when they go to the bank 7 months later and find that they had to make good on maybe a  800-1200 check. this happened to me ONCE!

As with anything in this industry.. use your mind and intuition.. it is a great power we were all blessed with

Accepting a check is a bad idea. Search back posts for Carissa to see her debacle with a bad check. But with that said, you will leave yourself vulnerable to the person being able to track you down. If the check is made to cash, and YOU cash it , i.d. must be presented. Give the check writer your real name and any banking info and he can then track you down. Will he? I don't know but is it worth the chance? Cash only is probably the smartest way.

FIRST SIGN YOU ARE GETTING RIPPED OFF.

TRUST ME ON THIS!

as you know, every checking account allows you to withdraw thru an ATM machine, so there is no excuses for using paper.

... a legal complication somewhere down the line, that check is what we call "evidence."

I'm told that when Sally Stanford operated her San Francisco parlor house ('30s - early '50s), she had a very effective means for dealing with bad-check writers.  She'd just post the check right up above the cash register in the bar, so everybody whoi came in could see it!

Personally for me it would depend on the client. If it was a regular that I knew well I wouldn't have a problem.I think ,rather for me it would have to be on the indivual. Also you can call the bank and make sure the funds are available. My 2 cents.Love,Franky

How do you know if the client has the funds in the bank to cover the check? Also, how do you know that he will not put a stop payment on the check? Too many questions and possible hassles to deal with. Just stick to accepting cash.

In rare circumstances, when someone is a regular you may do so
but it's at your discretion, and always discussed well before
the session.  The key word being rare.

from the legitamate clients perspective only give a check to a girl you trust. i would not want some of the people i have seen to have my home address and home # i have written checks before to providers, the only hard part is when it come time for "pay to the order of" and we all no most girls dont use their legal name, although i do know of one provider (who i have given a check to in the past) who is thinking of legally changing her name to her "working name", but thats just bec. she is 1 in a million

For the providers, the risks are almost obvious. You take a check, it bounces, you are out the money.  How about this though, you deposit a check, you sign the name on the you check when you deposit it to your account and or you put your account number

1) there is now proof that someone paid you  for something and when his wife finds the cancelled check or when the law firm finds that the partner used the law firm funds.... etc.... there will be shit to pay) they can track you down

2) you have now given your real name and bank account info (on the endorsement) to your client/customer etc...  never a good idea

For the hobbiest:
I don't care if you are single or married, you don't give out your personal info in that manner unless you want to read about yourself when the provider is busted(g-d forbid)
