THE FOLLOWING IS AN EXCERPT (MODIFIED PURSUANT TO TER RULES & GUIDELINES TO DELETE THE NAMES OF THOSE INVOLVED) appearing on page 14 of today’s New York Daily News written by Thoma Zambito

Two Queens hot-sheet motels were shut down this week after the arrests of five desk clerks for promoting prostitution. A three-month undercover NYPD probe revealed clerks at the two Queens motor inns directing johns to rooms rented out by hookers, Queens prosecutors say.
Both motels were padlocked by the NYPD Civil Enforcement Unit. "The actions that we have taken this week send a clear message — businesses that allow prostitution or other illegal activity to occur on their premises are at risk of being shut down," said Queens District Attorney Richard Brown.

One of the motor inns with hourly rates and themed rooms like "Arabian Nights" has been the subject of prostitution-related complaints involving underage girls over the past year, Queens prosecutors say. The other has generated similar complaints.
Beginning in December, undercover cops posing as prostitutes and their customers rented out rooms at each hotel while paying off desk clerks to ignore illegal activity, prosecutor’s say. The clerks, at the direction of the undercover cops, called their rooms when a customer arrived for a liaison, prosecutors say.
Arrested on prostitution and related charges were five desk clerks. They each face up to four years in prison.
The motel owners will have to petition a judge to get their businesses reopened.
