The East Village is where you would want to be to have fun, but I am guessing you are here to work 80% and play 20%. There are some really great upscale hotels that have opened up recently on the Bowery by NYU Cooper Square (Bowery and 4th Street), but they are pricey. The six train Astor Place station is right there too. The problem is that if you want to pull "nooners" from business types midtown east (DoubleTree on 51st and Lexington) may work out better for you although the Astor Place station is smack dab in the middle of downtown business district (Wall Street) and midtown business district (Finance/Law/Advertising etc.). I am partial to the East Village because I live here. It is "the shit". Trust me, it is where you want to be if you are going out for a great time, but you have other needs and have to accommodate the "geezers". I get nose bleeds when I go above 14th Street. You and your friend are both little “hotties”.  I doubt you would have a problem getting guys to stop by Cooper Union area. If you gave me the thumbs up I would run my fat ass over in a minute.

Times Square is where the tourists are, and it's a general pain to get to, unless you happen to work in midtown west and don't mind going downtown a little bit to see a provider.  Soho and Lower East Side are tougher to get to.

Soho is tougher because there aren't a lot of businesses down in that area that are obvious locuses of high-end clients (doctors, lawyers, bankers), and so if you are thinking of daytime appointments, that's a strike.

The LES is edgy and alternative and fun, but it is very hard to access by train.

If you want to have lots of daytime appointments and make it easier for doctors, bankers, and lawyers to come in during their lunch hours and such, book in the 40s and 50s no farther east than 2nd Ave.

The easiest location is midtown east.  If you are looking a place that is hip and fun and you don't care about catering to daytime appointments, that's a whole different story.

What are you looking for?

Frenchy, I sent you an email with some more info, but my .02 is that Times Square is not so horrible. It's a very central location if you don't mind being amongst many tourists. But there are tourists in every hotel in Manhattan so it really shouldn't be such a big deal. Midtown east is definitely a good choice as well.

Personally I LOVE the lower east side, it's an awesome neighbourhood. So is Soho.

I always stay at the East Village, mostly because I love spending my down time there.  I have a great hotel suggestion that's very very private.  I'll PM you with it, but if anyone else is interested please send me a message.

Midtown is the best place to work. That's where most of our clients work...

Not Soho (too quiet), definitely not LES. Time Square is inside Midtown. But if you choose to live at the same place as where you work, I would not recommend Time Square cause that place is full of tourists all the time and the traffic is stuck all the time...

Midtown east or west...
