On this board. More ISO posts than anything else.  Goes to show that New Yorkers are more about getting down to business than yakking about it.  I agree though.  We need more spirited local flavor and conversations.  We've had a few (see 24 hr restaurant thread) but not many lately.

....at least on TER....

I feel like there used to be much more interesting and fun conversations a year, two years ago but now, there's hardly much. Even a few months ago wasn't too bad....

I've been getting my sapiosexual buzz off the General boards but I'm looking for some local flavor. Surely there are interesting things going on in NY that people would like to share?

Places to go, things to do, people to see.....have your way with?....

Other boards like DC and Atlanta look so much more interesting. Surely we can give them a run for their money.

Indulge me my New Yorkers, I have been to long gone, whats up (or not) with restaurant week, whats on Broadway? What kooky local holiday can we celebrate today (August 1 was National Girlfriends Day!!!)

Lets make the New York Board a better place.... :-)

Once upon a time, many of us here used to meet fairly frequently on a social basis.  These events are called M&G's, which used to be an almost monthly event here; now, there's only two or three per year, and attendance at these is far below what we had during the glory days.  Attending these events brought the community together, and I believe as a byproduct people were more apt to post opinions, and participate in the general discussion.  Two years ago, I would have known many of the folks that post here personally as a result of these gatherings; now, I mostly stick with my regulars. and hit the road to attend the gatherings that are still held regularly elsewhere.

Just one of the issues that may be a factor here...

While that sounds cool, my home life situation would never allow me an evening out for such an event.  All of my hobby time is during a small midmorning to early afternoon window.  Not really condusive for most M&G's which take place at night

CD, I think you said it very well.  I'd add that IMO all the circumstances leading to the M&G's drying up have had a chilling effect here that is continuing and, as far as I can tell, there's no end in sight.  Again, JMHO.

to show up and write an article on a previous NYC meet.  After that most guys cringe at the thought of M&G's, at least the smart ones.

Actually some here think it may have been intentional rather than poor screening ... either way sucks

M&G's are a lot of work for the hosts. It takes about 3 months to put one together. Finding a good location, arranging for food and drinks takes time. The hosts have to put their own money on the line in hopes of a good turnout. As much as we love the ladies and they are the reason we are there, the success of these things relies on male attendance. If 75 guys say they are coming and 40 show, that's a big hole in the budget. We don't do this to make money, but we like to get close to even.

LE is not a problem for a well planned, discreet event. Neither are gate crashers with the proper screening and security. The reporter was invited by a misguided host. The resulting story did not out anyone.

For those gentlemen who think this type of gathering is too dangerous for them, I understand completely. At least you are being honest. But for all the big operators who clamor for parties and say they are going to be there, shame on you for not showing up. It kills the enthusiasm of the hosts.

Which BTW is actually quite entertaining---Chadwick Boseman does a pretty damn good job with the dance moves!! The songs, however, are all lip-synched--(which was SUCH a relief---no way I want ANYBODY else doing James Brown tunes!!) The story jumps around a bit--but it does provide some insight into JB's background--(which was impoverished)--his perfectionism--(which was notorious---one of the toughest guys to work for in the music biz)---and his stormy relationships with women.

He was a driven man--to be sure. But I think you come away from the film with an even greater appreciation of James Brown's creative brilliance!! To this day I don't think there's ever been a more dynamic live performer!! (For all you Michael Jackson fans out there---if you honestly think MJ had better moves than James Brown go on YouTube and type in "James Brown The TAMI Show." and watch his performance---I've never seen anything to approximate it---it's beyond incredible!!)

Holy Mackeral,

Let's.be.friends........ :-)

But see, something funny!

I quite liked the 24 restaurant post but have nothing to add to it. Admittedly , I've been traveling around Europe and Middle East for the past few months and not so in tune with what's going on... But that's why I wanted to find out why everyone is so quiet..... This is the city that never sleeps! I was expecting to have missed out on so much, turns out I feel almost ahead of the times... So sad.....
