Don't worry about it being slow.
I live in southern CA beach town and it was more of a ghost town last week.
Flew to Detroit on Wed and the airport was empty, rental car bus had two guys and me.

My point is that it's just the time of the year

Can someone explain it to me???

I just don't understand it.... I understand that some want to leave the city because it's hot and humid. But don't they have to work? I'm confused

Most of the Wall Street crowd goes on vacation in the summer. Many have tuition payments due in August.

A few providers offer discounts in the summer to make ends meet.

First of all, he's not from NY.  Second of all, even if he was, he'd still be wrong.  Wall Street works all summer, or haven't you noticed how trading continues all summer on the exchanges?  Sure, the big money goes to the Hamptons on the weekend and especially the last few weeks of August.  But it's silly to say everyone leaves. Once again, Chicken Little strikes out.

Summertime is generally busy... with the exception of the last week of August, and maybe the first week/week and a half of September. And, of course, Labor Day weekend.

It's true that in August, men are often joining their families for weekends at the shore or in the mountains.... but, the wives are sometimes away for the entire week or summertime. So there are guys who have a lot of free time to play in the city on weekdays...

To the OP, I think you worked for an agency... agency business is usually very busy at the beginning, because their established clients all want to see the new girl. That is one of the advantages of working with an agency.

As for independents... sometimes, guys do want to see the new girl (it could be because the new girls is still unknown and mysterious... other times, they will want to prey on your supposed inexperience and naivete). But, for the most part, a lot of guys will wait until you've been around for a while, and have a larger online footprint. And - from my experience, anyway - being busy comes from repeat business, and that naturally grows over time.

The major players of wall street take the summer off. You know as well I as know that after labor day the volume in the markets pick back up. BTW I am from NY.

Mr. Penny Stock Expert now thinks he knows about "major players of wall street."  What a joke.  And for someone who claims he's from NY you sure run your mouth a lot on the DC Board.  You really need to STFU.

The only time a provider should discount their time is during holidays. It's not the provider's problem that the hobbyist/client is having problems financially.Any financial hardship that the hobbyist/client is having is strictly his/her problem & the hobbyist needs to figure out how to jungle all of his/her expenses. And if the hobby life  style is not in his/her budget then leave the hobby lifestyle. And be thankful that the Provider is not asking for a percentage for a tip as the eco rt agencies do.

That in each market there is a limit on the number of hobbyists who spend $700 or more per month.  The average metropolitan area has 700 to 1400 guys who spend that much a month. They range from guys who split it up $100 a appointment to guys who see one provider at $500 to $700 an appointment.

There are several other factors that could be causing more than just a summer slow down.
1. Aging of baby boomers. Guys getting out the hobby because they discovered they have to save for retirement.
2. Lack of raises.
3. Increase costs in Health insurance, Food ect.
4. Generational shift of younger generations (less guys) not seeing escorts like the baby boomers

There could be some guys who are saying why spend the $700 a month when they can increase their 401k contributions.

She might be wise to offer discounts and/or lower rates to entice guys to cut back on retirement savings and spend on the hobby.

if NYC itself only had 700-1400 guys who spend $700/month on this hobby.

Factor in upstate, Westchester, NJ, CT, LI... it's a very big market.

He presents himself as The World's Greatest Authority, but in fact knows nothing. He is the Professor Irwin Corey of this site.
Ignore him.

You are coming at this from a different angle than most ladies here.  Looking at your reviews your normal rates are really low.  About half of the low side of the average for this site.  You can't discount your rates anymore.

But for women who charge 2-3 times as much as you do, or more, there is a lot more room to be flexible.

There are many times when a provider might want to offer a discount.  Personally, I don't think the holidays is even in the top 10 of reasons to do so. (which holiday?  Easter?  Ramadan?  Yom Kippur?)

The number 1 reason to discount your time is that you aren't getting the amount of business that you want.  If you don't have enough clients visiting you to make the living that you want, then perhaps offering a discount can help.

Another reason... Customer relations.  If you have a good, long term client, it pays to make them feel special.  Maybe a discount on their birthday.  Maybe as a thank you for being a long term client.  Maybe in the form of grandfathering them in at an old rate when you raise your rates.  Many women have lost clients to other ladies for making the clients feel like ATM's.

And what if a long term client has some financial hardship.  You are welcome to say goodbye to that client forever, if you like.  Or maybe offer them a break.

It's all up to the lady.  Some ladies never offer discounts.  Some do all sorts of things to make their clients feel appreciated.

If your business model works for you and you making exactly as much money as you want to, then great.  No need to change a thing.  But most people suffer from slow business at times, and being flexible could be the different between paying the rent or not.

Again, this applies mostly to women who charge much more than you do.  I agree that someone charging so little doesn't have any room to offer discounts.

According to a Siena College Research Institute poll, 56% of New Yorkers planned a vacation of a week or longer for this summer. The adult population of the New York Designated Market Area (DMA) is about 15.6 million, so that’s 8.7 million people taking vacations over a span of just 13 weeks. The numbers may even be higher with respect to our business since the SRI poll reported that those least likely to take vacations were single women, persons over 65 and those earning less than $50,000.

Hang in there - things will pick up soon.

Shhhhh...don't tell Jake.

Don't want to burst his bubble

In the hinterlands, you have dirt, grass, corn, wheat ... trees ... a lot of empty space and a relatively small amount of mass. Manhattan is built on solid bedrock, is covered with huge amounts of concrete and steel which is a HUGE amount of mass compared to a corn field.

The huge amount of mass in Manhattan causes gravitational time dilation and time runs slower in NYC.

In the summertime, the temperature and humidity is higher than in the winter and that causes plant growth (lots of leaves, taller grass, flowers, ...), materials to become saturated with moisture to their limit and the mass of the city increases causing time to slow down even more.

If you conduct your business on the topmost floors of the skyscrapers, you can decrease the gravitational effect and time will run a little bit faster than you experience on the lower floors or on the ground

I went from 2 clients a day to one client every couple of weeks now. Business is very slow.If this is your only source of income, it will be a problem for you.If you can, find a job and only do this on the side.Goodluck

I went from 2-3 appointments a week to 1-2 a month. I was able to find work, but even that job is only p/t.
When a client cancels or our schedules don't match up, it definitely leaves a hole in the wallet. It's been a toughie, but somehow it always works out

Is it because the health insurance companies have lots of processing work to do with new enrollments ?

used to sweating all year round like we are in California, so they move a lot slower.

Generally speaking for the reasons mentioned above in many businesses in Manhattan,  August is a slow month. But like other businesses you are in a VERY competitive industry. New competition  from all over the world  coming to NYC every day. So what  separates your services from other girls at your price point? Possibly a declining number of middle aged/older hobbyists that can afford the higher price points and more girls at the higher price points to choose from.

I say don't wait for the phone to ring... make it ring. Come up with a creative offering or special, pointing out what will make the time with you special.

Many girls spend money on advertising and acquiring a new customer is difficult and expensive. With new girls coming to town all the time, local girls are somewhat at a disadvantage.  Many hobbyists  like to meet new girls rather than repeat. What can you do to make a hobbyist a repeat customers? How great would it be to have 5-10 guys you have seen and like seeing you every few weeks or month? Not have to worry or work on finding a new customer. Think out of the box.

Not all girls are slow. The ones I know that are busy are the ones that have regulars keeping them busy.

Remember,  as an independent you are an entrepreneur and YOU are your business! Good luck.

Sage business advice. Personally I would be delighted to receive an unsolicited text message or email from a provider I had not seen in a while. New girls and variety are alluring, but the notion that a provider enjoyed her hour with me enough to remember me and take the step of reaching out to me?  That's hot.

I'm price sensitive, but a discount wouldn't feel right. I'm not buying a product, I'm contributing cash toward the goal of a person who can use that cash for something she needs.

So maybe instead of "giving" in terms of $, once in a while it would be delightful to hear a provider invite me to have a drink or two first, before the clock starts. That would give us a chance to make a connection, and it would make me more likely to take the plunge on committing in advance to the large donation that Emily and other well-reviewed providers surely deserve.

I am very slow too! I am in Brooklyn and my rates aren't really that high and still not too many clients calling me right now.
When the phone rings it's mostly waste timers who just want to play around on the phone . So aggravating .
Hopefully it picks up by the end of September before the holidays,, I know around Christmas it slow again too because men spend time with their families.

Things will pick up by mid September.  Hang in there.

Your rates are reasonable.  I just think there is an over-saturation of providers when you factor in visiting providers, seeking arrangement girls, brothels  and other outlets around the city (pop up strip clubs for example, constantly growing in number and that offer takeout at end of night).  Plus there are more ad boards than ever.  I won't even get into the generational conversation with fewer younger guys using escorts in a world of Tinder
