Time to repost the NYC Neighborhood Map, by which I mean MANHATTAN Neighborhood Map.

Many people will suggest Midtown (the pink "square with a hook") in the middle of the island. However, some people use Midtown to refer to a much larger area of Manhattan, spanning more blocks further E-W and N-S.

For newbies, I suggest E-W limits of 3rd Ave on the East and 9th on the West. That keeps you close the subways that run N-S on Lexington Ave. and 8th Ave.  The south end of Central Park is 57th St.; for a newbie, I think the upper 50s is a good northern limit so you get stuck East when you meant to be West and vice-versa. Southern limit? Everybody has a preference: Wall St. is busy during the day but dries up at night. Midtown is the stuff of "The City That Never Sleeps."

Search the NY board for earlier "Neighborhood Map" posts which usually address the same question. Go back at least 300 days.

At least there won't be any snew this time of year.

Good luck!

Times Square is very central, I always stick to that area. Safeoffice.com has a list of hotels in Canada and the US that are provider friendly ;)
