I also think the new discussion board is harder to read due to lack of background shading.

the same runs true now and again with some of the fantabulous providers I've spent time with...and then they change their "props" and I'm content again but at a higher level.

...so,in turn, variety is the spice of life.




As for the new and improved TER look:
Unless I'm missing something,it's the same features and "props". The colors are prettier but when trying to read the messages...it appears to be a bit more difficult...maybe its the very bright backround contrast or maybe its the color coding that's missing which highlighted what I've read previously.
So bottom line for me is that on TER... FBC.

But if you click on a message it changes color just like the
current setup.

Why do people always resist change? Everything has to evolve and sometimes websites can become stale looking and a face lift is a nice touch. Personally I like the new design. It gives it a less generic look and also classier.
