I remember taking the 7 train to Shea from the PA back in the '70's as a teenager.  No issues.

Only once ran into a problem on the subway, and it was in Manhattan after a concert downtown.  One of my friend's warded off the problem by paying the gangbangers by the buck they were asking for, and they backed off after seeing he had a switchblade, and wasn't going to take shit.  They backed off, but NY Transit Police didn't.  They treated us as the criminals for warding off the thugs...such was life back in the late '70's.  And you wonder why we don't trust LE to this day...anywhere...

Is it weird of me that all of those would've awesome to see? I remember my very first visit to NYC I was bold and took the train to Coney Island. These guys hopped on and we're looking super suspicious. They separated and then kept making eye contact with each other. I was sure they were going to try to take over the train, or at very least take all of my CI fun money when all of a sudden they started dancing lol. It was very entertaining, and they were super acrobatic. To this day whenever I visit I make it a point to take the train SOMEWHERE. Gotta love people watching in NYC
