Pretty much anyone in this hobby is lucky, at least partially, financially. I wish I had the means some of the guys have on here but I have enough for the necessities in life, save a little and have a little fun. I'm pretty sure we all could afford to donate a used coat or make a financial donation to a local charity (human or animal related even!).
As I type, I'm looking out my window from the third story of my building in NYC. Snow is falling and yet I'm fortunate to be home cozy on my futon with a warm fuzzy blanket covering me. I always feel so bad for the homeless in NYC this time of year and seeing them gives me a chance to be thankful for my own blessings.
Hopefully those who are affected by this crazy weather are staying warm and safe too! --SD
I feel terrible for them as well . Today they had the tradition of the groundhog . The groundhog says six more weeks of winter. Actually, a man holding the groundhog said it. The groundhog is simply a political puppet. Keep warm, Pollie Amorous

Living in the city and midtown as I do, all one has to do is walk around to see who is in need.. its easy to get a friend or two and carry some new or even used blankets and just give it to them and say coffee or hot chocolate? Since there is a deli on every block those are easy to get as well..
I find it impossible to walk past someone, even if I am in a rush to be on time somewhere to not even ask coffee or hot chocolate..
"There for the grace of God I go" Its impossible not to help someone in need..I know I cant and I wont just walk on by...
This reminds me of when I used to commute in the city and transfer over at 34th & Herald Sq. One morning I saw the Marines stationed there so I thought I'd give a little back. I went to the closest Tim Hortons and bought a bunch of donuts, donut holes, bagels and juice. I take it all back and present it to them and they politely declined (I'd assume for safety reasons). So what do I do with all this - well there happened to be close to a dozen homeless people there so I passed it around them. Going forward I would do this once a month or so for them. A lot of times they were sleeping and I'd just leave the bag with food next to them. Hopefully it was something nice for them to wake up to.
