Getting Started in NYC

A favorite provider of mine asked if I would be interested in investing in starting her own business.  She has a few girls in mind to work at her "place" but I would really like to know how does one find an apartment for such services in NYC?  Is there a certain type of place to look for.  Do any of you providers have to bribe the super or doorman?  How would one ensure it is safe?  What else should I be looking for?

I would not recommend that someone just jump into the business end of the hobby. If you are here asking these type of questions, then trust me! You have no business getting involved.

I consider myself very knowledgeable, and I would never take the risks involved.

Like I said, speak to an attorney and let him counsel you about the downside of the industry. It will be the best consultation fee that you ever spent.

Forgive me, but that's like asking, "A friend wants to open a retail business and I need to know where to buy shelves."  You need to do a lot more due diligence and soul searching before you start looking for an apartment. Is there a business plan, pricing and marketing strategy, compensation agreements, booking and screening procedures etc. Not to mention legal and tax issues. Last time I checked there were over 500 providers on Eros-NY alone. The days of clients beating a path to your door ended when the economy tanked three years ago.

If she were asking you to invest in a legal business and had a business plan/proposal I would still say be cautious. But she wants you to invest in an illegal business.

When it comes to escorting it is best the less people involved the better. In an agency/group every person involved is a link in the chain that can be broken to put everyone at risk. Even if you risk for exposure is minimal your risk to lose your money is high.

You should be looking for a lady who doesn't want put you at risk. Or at least the smarts to just ask you to pay her rent. Then at least later you are just a guy paying some pretty girl's rent - not a crime.

A few girls I know who have started their own place say that if you're gonna start your own place with mutliple girls working, you need to find a discreet, non-doorman apartment building in a convenient part of the city that is easily accessible to office buildings and not too far from trains.  You will need to probably pay off the super and a doorman, if you have one (most girls prefer the non-doorman building route).

Some places also put in a webcam that records the images of customers coming in and out, and of course most places have a computer with records of clients (both for VIP clients and for "do not see" lists).

But to answer...how do you find an apartment?  The actual apartment finding thing is the same as finding an apartment for conventional use.  You look at listings and find something that works.

Oh, and remember that there is always a paper trail, so the girl renting the place better be comfortable having it in her name.
