Hello Everybody!

This is my very first post and I'm so happy and excited to be a new member of TER!! :)

I'm searching for a discreet incall location here in Midtown along with another provider. We found a place in a very convenient location but are concerned with the state of the building's entry. The apartment itself is bright, spacious, sunny and CLEAN. The landing is as well. There is absolutely nothing wrong at all with the apartment itself- better than any we've seen.

The issue is the entry to the building. There is currently scaffolding up- who knows how long that will be there? There are a few take out lunch places. The initial flight of stairs is not very pretty. Quite ugly in fact. Looking at the entrance from the street, well, it's quite low-brow to be frank. Once you are in and up on flight it's clean and fine.

Spending time with us does not come cheaply. We appreciate that you have to make a very conscious decision to be with us and to spend what we ask for. We believe that is deserving of an exceptional experience from start to finish. Would a less than nice building entry be a deterrent to you? Does the building mean anything to you provided that the location is super convenient and the apartment itself is well kept, beautiful and clean?

Personally I'm torn. I love the location and the apartment itself. I like that it's in a busy are of this particular block. Less likely to notice any going ons. No doorman, and quite a few people going around do to lunch places and a nail salon. I feel that it is almost more discreet than a quiet well kept entrance. But at the same time my friend and I don't want the entrance to leave an unnecessary bad taste in anyone's mouth.

What are your thoughts?

Kiss me,

Kate

Even if the appearance of the entrance isn't so bad it raises safety concerns, at the prices you charge you're correct that clients should expect a reasonably attractive entrance.  But have you checked with building management to see when the scaffolding will come down?  Or if they intend to improve the entry and stairs?  Remember, there are loads of apts. in Manhattan.  No need to settle.
PS: I've been to at least a dozen incall apts. used by providers charging $400/hr to $600/hr.  None were what I'd call de luxe, but none were off-putting either.

You could probably do better. If you are going to charge the rates that you're charging, from my perspective, the moment I walk up to the door of your apartment - to the moment I leave, all my senses (sight, smell, taste and touch) should be engaged in the positive.

... your heart is telling you this is not right otherwise you would not have put up this post. Don't rationalize away your well founded concerns. Heart over brain every time. You won't go wrong.

Yep, agreed, not the right place. There was no commitment made- as we want to be sure it's the right place from all aspects... Thanks for the opinions everybody! :)

When looking at midtown it seems to be east of lex or west of 8th. Most places in the middle seem to have doormen. Doorman building bad for obvious reasons. So, moving on from the specifics of that spot.... what neighborhoods do you guys find to be most convenient?

Kisses,

Kate

Try the 30s and 20s east of Third Avenue. Been to several non-doorman incall spots over there, including walk ups (but stay below the 4th floor if possible) and elevator buildings. Lots of young people in their 20s and 30s there too, which helps to mask traffic. Also, Chloe Carter? What she said.

And hey - are you smiling? :D

Personally I prefer east side, mid thirties up to mid 80s, but for you I'd go to China.

From client perspective as long as the neighborhood isn't sketchy, then I wouldn't worry too much about what the facade and the staircase look like. Yes, its true that when you look at the building and walk up the skeevy staircase you might find yourself bracing for the worst, BUT, if the girl is hot (and your pictures are) and the apartment looks sweet on the inside, all the rest is (very) quickly forgotten.  If a good time has been had, your perspective on it as you head down the skeevy staircase is certainly changed.   And if that helps keep the cost down all the better.  I would rather pay 600 and deal with some negative first impressions than have to pay 700 and walk into an upscale locale and get the very same service.  As for a neighborhood recommendation, I have seen lots of providers on the east side in the 30's, 40's , and 50's east of Lex and love the ease of traffic, parking, and the buildings are pretty nice by and large.  On the contrary for all the opposite reasons I hate anything near Times Square (although two of my absolute favorites who are also on the top 10 list are located near there).  Hope that helps.

....if your incall is clean, neat, pretty and sexy (ie. candles, soft music, colours and ambience) I don't think it's an issue. The guys are wanting YOU not the five star hotel. Anyone that correlates a 'not so perfect' entrance to a bad thing is ridiculous. We are in NYC for goodness sakes - there is construction everywhere.  My advice to you Kate (my sweet lover girl) is not to fret about this - make your abode a place of luxury, comfort and sense of peace for you and your clients. Either way, you will be successful with whatever choice you choose. Love ya lots!

Unfortunately it sounds like a low-budget rental.  Some guys care and some won't.

But as you hinted it might be a tough sell going into a place like that when paying top tier rates.

Unfortunately, we all tend to "judge books by their cover" If a hobbyist showed up at your location wearing a t-shirt with holes, faded shorts, flip-flops and a backwards baseball cap, you would immediately make a character judgment about him that would be quite different than if he showed up wearing a polo shirt, slacks and loafers. Now obviously flip flop guy could be the best, most educated and professional client of all time while loafer man could be a mitigated disaster. But you did formulate an opinion about them at first site.

In your location query, fairly or unfairly, hobbyists will already have formulated an opinion about the session based on your location (where it is, what the surroundings look like as they approach your apartment). You have already painted the walk-up to your place as a horror show. You can bet hobbyists would be at least a little worried about the session to come especially at the high level of donation you are requesting. Now again, the session could be an A+ and all will be eventually be forgotten. But it will take effort on your part to quell the hobbyist’s initial doubts.

We all make judgments about each other prior to the session even starting. Providers formulate opinions about hobbyists based on how they contact them, did they show up on time, did they put the donation down at the start, are they nicely dressed/well groomed. Conversely, hobbyists formulate opinions on providers before their session based on did she get back to me in a timely manner, how was her attitude during the screening process, was she ready on time, is her location in a nice area, is her apartment clean or does it look like another hobbyist just left, etc.

You are obviously concerned enough about the outward appearance of your location. That should be a sign to you to find another locale.

Thanks again for the advice everybody! Especially you, Chloe (yay! first time we've conversed on the boards- still prefer in person though!).

I just received an email from the agent saying the apt is gone. I had told her to let me know if it moves. That building had three similar studios as of last friday. They had gutted out and re-did each of them at the same time. Too bad they didn't do the building.... LOL.

The midtown tenement walk up provider apartment is a pretty well-established venue. I've been hobbying on and off for more than 20 years and I've seen many mid-market providers in these types of flats. The entrances are nondescript, at times even a bit seedy looking, but that's just par for the course.

Regarding doormen, there are differing views on this. On the one hand, some hobbyists feel uncomfortable with a doorman (usually the provider "tips" the doorman to look the other way). Personally, I feel safer in a doorman building. Buildings with doormen also tend to be better kept and more upscale, so if that's the impression you're trying to give your clients, then it may be the way to go.
