END OF MESSAGE

But have yet to do it. Has anyone done this before? This might be the year!

I have many times and it used to be fun. Now, however, the crowds are so big that is more like Times Square at New Year's Eve. You simply cannot move anywhere. I would avoid it it I were you.

Last year I was doing event services for the parade and I was doing VIP assistance at the grandstand at Columbus Circle. I watched the floats go by directly overhead. A once-in-a-lifetime, up close and personal experience. I got great pics - even for my crappy little phone. :)

Glad I had the opportunity, but I wouldn't do it again.... It was FREEZING COLD out there!

They do this along central park west and earlier this week and it is crazy to walk on the sidewalk along the park .. they already started setting up seats and such.. it use to be really cool..but as the years go by, the amount of people that come to watch has gotten out of control. they now have barriers set up along with the seating stands.. Its best to watch it from an apt window up above it all..

:)

Vastly over rated Sindee, really. Years ago (I mean 20-25) it was fun, but now it's hideously crowded. It's a massive tourist/media event, you'll line up for hours. Sidewalks impassable. If you have a friend who's throwing a party overlooking it then it's fun of course, but I would avoid it otherwise. Sorry to bust you're bubble.

....and had I read Max's reply first (and others) I could have saved myself the typing...lol

Every year I say it time to give thanks. For me it means paying back to those less fortunate. I have always wanted to volunteer and serve at the Bowery Mission. Seeing this gave me cause to make the call. Lets see if it comes to fruition. Thanks for the topic Sophie!

You can also donate food ...go there and see what they need ....also go through your closet any clothes you don't use put in a bag especially jackets ...bring them too and there ward is great.... as Christmas approaches toys for kids are also needed and you can ask to see who is honest in giving them out ...

Have a nice holiday !

unfortunately I will be at work all day and since Im not from here I'll be missing my family for both Thanksgiving and Xmas :(

I guess that is out of the question...lol
But did enjoy a memorable Thanksgining there a couple years before it closed.
They seated me by the big Christmas tree. Received lots of glances from folk wondering who the dude was at a primo table with that hot blond.

BTW NYers....did anything replace that restaurant? Is the building still there or what?

The building is used as a greeting center for things like the NY Marathon.

I used to work there in the gift shop. I hated the job, but it was a magical building that just oozed history.

Ehhh, Trump will get the contract to run the place one day and he'll make it as schmaltzy as he does with everything else.

Those were the days my friend...

Gone like the water down the depot drain.

Yesh, NYC has become sucky like that. You expect the classics to get destroyed in places like Vegas, but New York, c'mon. Yeah, things have been getting real dumb here in NYC for years.

Go there all the time...Corporations Destroyed this city and others...all the franchise shit for the newer generations and no traditions ....fast everything , the independent business can't survive. Its boring , no place for upstart music groups , celebrity entertainment , copa too...I was around celebrities as a kid and in my early 20s ..it wasn't a big thing . Nowadays , garbage music , video games , and shit food ! People don't even dress up anymore ...and the "hip" places of today , no ambiance...the tgif , Applebee's, and 1$ drinks killed the businesses for the lunch crowd and weekend scene dead...know we have reality TV shit and they call it entertainment ....I refer to the times a a classless society..and yes there were high end houses with top shelf women , nice massage parlors...card games , to guiliani that moron , it was called fun ! That guy , a fucking hypocrite !!
