That Times Square and the businesses therein understand that the area is a huge tourist attraction, and the amenities there will be priced as such. You may save a bit on your expenses (food, coffee, entertainment, even hotels) if you stay someplace like SoHo.
Good luck, my dear.
Hi NYC!
I'll be visiting Manhattan in early October and really need to know the best area to stay in Manhattan. Is it better to stay around Time Square, Soho, etc? I will be planning my trip for 8 days. If it's best to have a location for 4 days, then move to a different part of town, please advise.
I know the traffic in Manhattan is beyond ridiculous, so any advice is good advice. I tend to stay in vacation rentals when traveling, but also would like to be centrally located. I'm a Cali girl... And out here we're not really accustomed to walking 50 blocks to get somewhere. Lol
Thanks! Kira

For your needs I recommend Times Sq. as it is centrally located and midtown is a popular area with a mix of entertainment venues and businesses. My own office is located near there.
There are a mix of upscale and mid-scale accommodations and a variety of eateries, restaurants, bars, etc.
Plus, you can blend in nicely with the other vacationers/tourists.
Times Square = entertainment in all it's forms ![]()
Times Square is right for someone who doesn't know the city well. Lots of choices of hotels and easy to get to so you can move to a different hotel easily and have a slightly different experience. Easy to blend in too although something tells me YOU would likely stand out in a crowd wherever you are. And don't worry about walking - cabs are everywhere.
The one drawback about the east side in October is that the UN may be in session, and there will be lots of traffic and security in the area if so. You should conduct some research on that before committing. Also, hotel rates tend to be significantly higher in NYC in the Fall, so locking in your reservations ASAP is probably a good idea...
I've paid $$$ for ** hotels during the fall. As for the Mid-Town East being a drawback for the ladies, beyond the hotel rates, and potential limited availability of rooms during peak times, it's still worthwhile to check them out. West side hotels are OK so long as you don't stay too close to Times Square...as bad as the Strip in Vegas with the crowds of tourists.
So, it depends on what you want to do when you get down to NYC. If you are a shopper than you should stay around SOHO. Being in TIME SQUARE is convenient because it is centralized. Do not rent a car. We use the MTA metro north and cabs. You can download a subway map on any smartphone. lots of folks use NYCMate from droid market. Great App. If you are a party girl then Soho may also be a better choice bc a lot more clubs are in Alphabet city and lower east side. If your working try to line up the hotel with a subway route that is close to your jobsite. Any other questions reach out to me?
Are in Midtown. Midtown has an east, west that seem best as well.
Have fun when you visit!

And since I've never hobbied in NY my insights are worth about 2 cents ...or less.
You should look into one of the big, faceless hotels in Midtown West. Times Square hotels tend to have serious security and require room key cards for access. They also are not very luxurious and are overpriced.
Tells me SOHO sounds like the place to be. As I like doing tourist type activities, I also like smaller crowds. I won't be staying in any hotel in NYC, as I have paid over $400 a night for a less than 2 star hotel. Vacation rentals (apartments) are the way to go for me. I was more worried about which area, as I know it can be hard to get across the city for a gentlemen interested in an incall appointment.
Well, I guess I'll be looking into a split: 4 days in Soho, 4 days near Time Square. Thanks for you help gentlemen! Will be posting tour dates within the next week or two. Hope your all having a wonderful week and have an even better weekend!
