Hello everybody,

I was thinking today about how much of our chosen names we internalize. I readily answer to Katherine, Kate, Katie and Kat. In fact, even Kutie Katie from one suitor. I spent this evening at BAM attending the benefit concert for Kate McGarrigle being thrown by her kids, Rufus and Martha Wainwright along with Norah Jones and others. Kate died from Sarcoma and there is now a foundation raising money for researching that specific type of cancer. It's hardly as if I feel weird when hearing news of the famous pregnant Kate. Or perhaps I'm being morbid, connecting to it in a field of cancerous talk when I dealt with a loved one's cancer this spring. It was completely and utterly odd to keep hearing all these things regarding "Kate's" cancer and death.

How about you all? Are there times when you are "you" but something keeps pushing the hobby you into your current consciousness? This is obviously for the girls as we all have a second persona. However, I know that many of you guys also have hobby names that you use, so please feel free to chime in. Open discussion on what our names mean to us. Perhaps they are even more important to our identity than our given names, being that we choose them ourselves?

Kiss me,

Kate

PS I will have NO ACCESS to any internet or email whatsoever until next week. I'm really looking forward to reading your answers then, but I cannot respond to anything at all these next 5/6 days.

PPS We can have fun here! I didn't mean to get all deep and philosophical about our names, though my writing comes off as more serious than I intended.

As I'm writing this, in the back of my head I'm hearing the Billy Joel song "The Stranger" playing... LOL! Well, it makes sense.

Anyhoo, to your question.... People that know me (I mean really know me) know the real me. That's about the best explanation I can give.

I'm about to head out (camping in the mountains, yay!) and thought I'd give a last quick peek here.

Sindee- that's exactly the sort of little story I was interested in! :)

I know my post sounded serious, but I wasn't giving much thought to the tone as I was writing. Imagine that a few pounds lighter... ;)

For another silly example- I was at starbucks the other day and almost took the frap made for a "Kate."

Enjoy your weekend everybody. xoxo

Kiss me,

Kate

It was a magnificent concert - and the double CD kept me up most of the night. I realy wanted Rufus to write me a song AND have Martha come over to cook dinner and drink wine...but I was just a few dollars shy on both. Be sure to see the movie about Kate and the original concert - it's at Film Forum. Happy Camping!

There's Lois Lane, Lana Lang, and a few others with the initials "LL". Never saw you in the comics, but I don't think I read them passed age 10.

and a bunch of my friends friends spotted me on line and  instantly killed her off. This was a long time ago, maybe 03'. I came up with my first name pretty easy, and for my last name I wanted something NO BODY would be able to copy. So far so good.
