I don't see what a former Democrat, recently turned republican (who is also Jewish), i.e., Bloomberg, has much in common with Bush except they are in the same party.  Both parties have a wide spectrum of adherents.

Why the sudden flurry of agency busts?  Julie's operated for years and I believe she was even somewhwhat friendly with the police who turned their head the other way and just let her go about her business.
Why have things changed so much in NYC all of a sudden?

Maybe it's something to do with "nobody but the police know and we will never find out the real story".

And your point is? In laymen's terms(without an article).

I would surmise the point being that it is a benefical act in the political sense to arrest a madam and break up a brothel and gain the headlines that result.  Going after the John's gains no such political capital for anyone involved and embarassing the men involved did not have the desired discouraging effect on the industry (otherwise the Ed Koch John's list would still be in existence).

I would imagine in the case of Julie's, bringing an underage girl into the picture scores even more political points because of the public outrage that will result, thereby undermining the usual belief that prostitution is a victimless crime and that the authorities should have something better to do.  Now there is a victim, the underage girl, and the costs to investigate and prosecute seem justified.

I think it will be interesting to see if there really is an underage girl that worked at Julie's with her knowledge.

... what the article seems to suggest is that several assistant DA's are jockeying to succeed Robert Morgenthau as Manhattan District Attorney, who is getting quite old and may retire soon. So, one or more of themn is using a crackdown on agencies to gain publicity for a run at the boss' job next time the position is up for election... at least I THINK that's what it means...

Who knows??  Bloomberg got all freaky about smoking, busting bars and restaurants just for having ashtrays on their premises.  He also got really hot and bothered about people who make excess noise.  He even busted Mr. Softee Ice Cream trucks.  All this while real crime is on a sharp increase.  I guess this will go on for another four years and then the mayor’s gone.  According to recent polls he might not even get reelected, and therefore, it may be even sooner.

Before Bloomberg, there was Rudy Gulianni and his famous crack down on "quality of life" crimes. Working under the theory that small crimes often are commited and or attract larger ones.

With this in mind NYC LE and DA's began to go arrest, process and if needed prosecute crimes that may have only gotten a desk appearance ticket previously. To the suprise of many, this technique along with others, including "Comstat", resulted in the drop of crime that has made NYC safe as the burbs.

9/11 and the subsequent terrorism "war" disrupted some of LE work as police were needed elsewhere, but now things are getting back to normal.

As for agency "busts" don't know that they are being singled out more than lone workers, and many independents are reporting increased attention from LE.

Years ago LE used to pick up "Screw" and call numbers to find out who was doing what. And while some of that still goes on (except there are now hundreds of ads in various forms of media), LE  has another tool. Comstat and a special telephone line dedicated to "quality of life" crime reporting. People suspecting someone in their area/building is up to something can now call in and complain. These complaints are logged, tracked and compiled. Where before they may have been "lost" in the huge amount of work NYC LE does, now each commander is held accountable for his beat. If there is a high number of complaints for a particular area, and action is not taken, the commander can find him/herself  in trouble. This travels down the line to keep everyone on their toes.

NYC especially Manhattan is turning into a cross between Disneyworld and the surburbs. People paying $$$$ or more in either rent or for a home simply are not going to put up with a cat house nextdoor/upstairs.

NYC is a very compact area, and contrary to popular belief not eveyone is so wrapped up in their own lives they do not pay attention to what is going on around them. A woman/trannie/man that has lots of traffic into their home at all hours of the day, is sure to raise interest, and perhaps complaints. It does not take a MBA to figure out a person with lots of traffic and no visable means of support is "up to something".

As for LE turning a blind eye to Julie, that would be interesting in light of the famous Midtown Police scandal a few years ago. Basically a group of officers were found to be spending the time they should have been out on the beat, at a cathouse. Warned the owner about potential actions, took "freebees" and so on. When the scandal hit it rocked NYC LE. So much so that when a bust happens today something like 8 LE show up to keep an eye on each other so nothing "happens".

IIRC there was another bust near one of Trump's buildings on the Upper East Side several months ago. Last fall a house near Madison avenue was raided. Those are just the ones that make the news, go over to Midtown Community Court some morning and watch the goings on. Girls from all parts of NYC are learning their fate, from street chicks, to high end escorts.

As one LE friend of mine put it, anyone who thinks NYC LE does not know what they are up to is in denial. If they have been working more than a few months chances are LE knows where they are and perhaps who they are. The question is how much time and money do they want to invest in a raid.

I post a while ago before the election that if Bush is relected expected worst thing to come for hobbists. Funny thing is I've seen many hobbists and many madames ( i.e. one madame from Florida) were supporting Bush and make fun of the Democrate. Remember when this topic came out a while ago in this board, people are making fun of Clinton and many are bashing the Democrate. Well, now Bush and his born again Christian groups are putting pressure to crack down on these type of hobby. If they have their way and they will try to find one, they will close down this site and other sites which to them are considered as promotion for prostitution. One more thought, isn't it funny that most of the houses and agencies raid are published first in the NY Post. Watch out, here come the Bushies.

I don't see what a former Democrat, recently turned republican (who is also Jewish), i.e., Bloomberg, has much in common with Bush except they are in the same party.  Both parties have a wide spectrum of adherents.
