Im uptown and decided I'd like to go to Chinatown and bring back some Chinese dumplings and noodles (Best to have some food ready to eat, because once the storm comes, I doubt we can go outside at all). Anyway, I hopped in a taxi to go to Chinatown and this taxi had the meter on, but on the way back I had two taxis want to charge me $30 for one way. My dumplings and noodles were $15 and my taxi fares were $50. But those Chinese dumplings are delicious! So be prepared when you get in a taxi to be paying by the zone now. The city tried to make an incentive for the taxi drivers to work today so they told them they can cut out the meter. Also, they are allowed to pick up other passengers while you are in the car and charge them the full zone fare also. My taxi driver said this may not happen again for another 10 years so the taxi drivers are really hustling today. With no buses or subways, we can only go by taxi. If you are hobbying today, I might suggest to see someone in your own zone.
