WTF? This really alarmed me. How did they find my twitter? Or know my full name for that matter? I don't recall if I had to give them my full name when I went through screening a while ago, but nonetheless, I don't know how the hell they found my twitter. Not cool in my opinion, since I got an email about it that went to my personal email.
them finding your twitter account. I clicked on the invitation and it took me to a page that would have required me to enter my info, which I chose not to do. There was no indication on that page that my twitter info was available to Pam.
I assume they have my hobby email address on file. I have no problem with that, though I understand some may. I simply have no interest in twitter and didn't agree to connect.
However it happened it's not cool. I don't use my Twitter and FB accounts for hobby-related matters and I wouldn't want anyone contacting me there re the hobby.
If I were you, I'd make that plain to A/C and hope they respect your wishes, which, given what I know of them, seems likely.
myself, I get requests to join a lot of gentlemen's twitter account. I never reply to it as I am sure they do not want ""maturebridgette" as their friend on twitter. I don't know how or why these requests are sent to me. But I never accept.
I am assuming it is the same idea as Aphrodite mentioned. Their twitter account got my name through their emails..
Little intrusive if you ask me on behalf of twitter.
Once a person signs on with Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, or whatever, you are throwing all your info out into the world, i don't care what privacy settings you set. What's worse, without you doing anything, these sites automatically troll for possible links to you. I'm not on Twitter, but I've gotten LinkedIn request from providers from both their work names and their personal names. I know they did not actively do this. The site did. Remember the sites are in business to help themselves, and they think they're cute when they find "friends" and "contacts" for you. No one sees my emails but me, but if anyone has privacy concerns, stay away from this stuff. The NSA has nothing on these guys.

If one isn't careful, your computer can link up all of your social networking and email accounts. I had a freak out moment when my new iMac tried to send out a Twitter invite to ALL of my linked email accounts, five of which are personal!
That's probably what happened. Of course, it's understandable if you didn't know to use a hobby only email addy in the beginning. I only save hobby emails and I use a non-descript generic email address for guys to send personal/work info to.
I also got a Twitter Request from AC but what concerned me even more was a Linkedin Request From AC. I obviously did not accept. Had I accepted AC would now have access to all my professional network.
apps and applications that will help you find people who may know you. Those very same apps are given permission by you "intentionally/unintentionally" to scour your phone contacts and emails (cellphone and pc email). You have to be very diligent when it comes to this because the program will suggest people to you and in turn suggest you to them.
So a) use a burner phone b)browse in private mode c) double check any permissions you are about to give
The social network bots seem to be able to find almost any trace link to connect your network IDs. If you tested your hobby email by sending an innocent message to your business email, I think that FB or Twitter will pick up the scent and hunt you down with more emails and invites. If your browser can have you simultaneously logged to more than one account, I believe the FB, Twitter et al will someone figure it out and, at some point, connect multiple accounts and "activities" on that single IP address to a single user. NOTE: Closing a browser window does NOT always log you out and terminate a login. You should purposefully hit the "logout" button and wait for the process to complete. Surprise! You've been outed.
I keep my computer activities as widely separated as possible and my hobby computing is deliberately crippled (no flash; no scripts; no fancy, unnecessary CRAP). I wish the Advertisers (the girls!) would keep this in mind when designing new websites.
I do not think that it was done intentionally at all. They actually seem to have a very good reputation, and no business will do anything that will jeopardize their clients safety. Mostly everyone knows that different sites, and apps offer the options of letting people who are already in your contacts find you or vice versa. It seems as though it was nothing more than a honest mistake.
