I personally signed up to Seeking Arrangement (which I discovered in a NY Times piece).
I've had a number of encounters on as a "sugar daddy" from one night stands to a longer term arrangement that lasted four months. Some sugar babies are paid an "allowance" per date or a fixed sum on a monthly basis.
It does take some work in that there usually has to be mutual attraction, although some girls are less discriminating, others are looking for just one exclusive arrangement. So I have sampled everything in between both extremes.
The difference with providers is that these are real relationships, albeit NSA. Some of the girls can be quite young (I've met with a number of barely 18 year olds recently) and the oldest I have met is a youngish 40 year old. I tend to gravitate toward recent graduates 22-23 as they are still young and yet sexually experienced too. 18 year olds tend to be squeemish and/or very inexperienced (e.g., they don't know what to do in bed, a bit novel at first but can get old pretty fast).
But among the key differences with hobbying is you're not paying by the hour. Thus you can just relax, go on dates, have dinner, go to shows, go back to your place or a hotel (in very rare cases to the girl's place if they live alone) watch TV then frolick in bed, stay overnight, sometimes drive her home, go on extended trips together, etc. I often find that I am in consistent contact (e.g., text messaging, instant messaging, phone calls, etc.). Since forming an NSA relationship is usually the norm, connections are deeper, but some choose to seek NSA "one night stands" so to speak, if the prospective sugar babies are ok with one night only encounters (some are, and some aren't, I've met both types... most want a longer commitment that might last a few months to a couple years).
