New Brunswick is home to the main campus of Rutgers University. There are plenty of bars and spots to eat. My friend's husband owns Fire n Ice, a hookah lounge in the area (if you're into that sort of thing). I've also spent time with a friend at Hotoke, an upscale sushi lounge. Just a couple of thoughts there...
I hope this isn't too late, but here are three nice restaurants in NB:
1. Stage Left, 5 Livingston Ave. Generally expensive menu but has Best Burger in NJ - for $18. It is really good but it is an extravagance. Small but good bar.
2. Frog & Peach, 29 Dennis Street. Classy and eclectic menu. Not cheap. Nice place for drink and apps.
3. Old Man Rafferty's, 106 Albany Street. More pubby place. Decent food at affordable prices.
If this still isn't too late, I'd add another to that list if you're a fan of less healthy options. Check out Grease Trucks, on the corner of Hamilton and College Ave, for the best, most disgustingly unhealthy hot sandwiches you've ever had. They're known for the "Fat" sandwiches, don't bother with the other stuff on the menu.
