The town of Secaucus (hey I was not in charge of naming these towns) is in the meadowlands area and has a number of nice hotels and is easy to get to and about 20 miles from Newark airport.
Convenient for the hobbyists and convenient for you in terms of shopping, restaurants, etc. It's sort of a self-contained area not on the highway but very close to the major roads and has shopping malls, hotels, restaurants, cinemas, etc. You will probably find it to be a good place to stay.
