You have to try new haven pizza it's one of the best . I'd suggest pepes pizza on Wooster street. It's the the original and one of the best. After that if you like tai Asian bentri on orange St is awesome.  
 

if you love real Texas BBQ you want to make the trip to Hoodoo Browns BBQ in Ridgefield. It is a bit of a drive from New Haven but so worth the trip.  Depending on when you are in town...would love to buy you dinner!
