There's a great old French restaurant called La Bretagne.  Unimpressive location but always had great, authentic food.  Lots of fine restaurants next door in Greenwich, on Greenwich Ave. Also a good spot on the Post Road in Riverside called Baang -- Asian fusion, good bar scene. Going the other way, also lots of good places in the SoNo area of Norwalk.

Got some travel next week..and debating between heading south or north once i am done with Boston and Metrowest. I am former restauraneur and looking for exceptional dining, foodie activities and haven't been back there for a while. Specifically looking for a recommendation for Stamford CT (my fave Telluride with their awesome wine pours is not longer there) in addition to the Portsmouth NH/York ME areas. (thinking smaller portion/Happy Hour/small plate type venues..or hole in the wall unique local places.or even gourmet food/wine shops...)..coming from a land locked state..seafood is a plus!

Appreciate the help! i have two days to play with some New England sightseeing and hoping to make as much use of my time as possible and not get stuck in tourist trap-ville.

I've got no advice to offer for Stamford, but there's plenty of adventures to be had up here in Portsmouth!

I've always enjoyed the food at Rudi's, but if you're after seafood specifically you may want to try the Blue Mermaid. More than either of the aforementioned, I personally choose to frequent Surf's raw bar for oyster shooters and hot stone tuna.

If you want a lobster, do yourself a favor and just pick up a few from Brown's lobster pound. It's simple, unglamorous, and insanely delicious.

..now being in a landlocked state..i miss lobster horribly!
