Since I didn't want to hijack Charlotte's thread I thought I'd start this one here. I love antiquing, neat old architectural salvage shops, the strange house with 200 flamingos in the yard. I'm the person that will drive by stop and take a photo because it just tickles me and makes me smile a little. In addition to many gorgeous historical places what else do you suggest? Just for the fun factor?

A supposedly haunted hotel?

There is a woman in MA with some 4 dozen of those bouncy ponies in her front yard, unfortunately I don't have a picture of it. I guess she used to repaint them every year. Seeing it makes your eyes go boing!

The best non-touristy place to dig for antiques without getting gouged?

Is there a yard sale heaven here in New England?

:-)

Grace the best place in the country is the Brimfield Flea Market on Rte 20 in Brimfield MA. It is held three times a year, spring, summer and fall. If they don't have it, it doesn't exist. Pm me for further info or check them out on the web. I love it just to walk around!

Brim field is a weeklong event with dealers from all over the country. Best to go in Spring or Fall as Summer is just
too hot (very little shade). It's a mile stretch on Rte 20 with dealers in fields on both sides of the road. I always enjoyed it when I lived in Mass.

I've got a bunch of fairly valuable antiques in my home that I got for a song at Brimfield.

There are nice antique stores in Boston (Charles Street between Beacon and Cambridge Street has several; and there is Brodney on Newbury Street as well.  But they are all pretty pricey.

On the way to Brimfield on Rt 20, there is Sturbridge that also has some shops and at least one antique Mall (near the Walmart).  The prices are better there.

I think you should HIJACK me and lets go do all this together!!

What a great place to live!!

That's why I love it here! So many undiscovered local treasures!

I'm always up for a fun day trip, so pm me any time :-)

I was there every show a couple years ago. The things you will find will blow your mind. All my antiques are now in storage. I hope to get them out soon and enjoy all the amazing things I bought at Brimfield. Have fun antiquing!

200 Stuart st in Boston, used to be the 57 Park Plaza, then bought by Raddison, now it's under a new name but I forget what it is. But the hotel was built on the site of the Coconut Grove, 492 people died there in a fire in 1942. Have a friend who used to work there who's told me a few stories about seeing ghosts and strange things happening there. Lights turning on and off, unoccupied rooms getting noise complaints and the chain being on the door when security went to check it out etc
There's also one room where they've had three separate suicides, and a groom and his best man fell off the balcony of the 23rd floor while drunk

-Check out the Brimfield Antique Fair
-Newburyport, by the waterfront next to the Black Cow Rest. there is a large barn chock full of stuff
-Rt 133 along Ipswich & Essex
-The name escapes me - but in New Beford there is a massive warehouse that is all Architectural Salvage & Antiques
