Hello Everyone!

I've been traveling a bit, reading like crazy as always, and today checked in to see what has been going on here.  A post below mentioned people being identified by their picture backgrounds, and with only THAT in mind I confess that I instantly started to think about all the ways that WE CAN'T BE TOO CAREFUL, and how some people just don't seem to THINK before posting pictures (or even getting into the hobby!)  If everyone would just do X, Y, and Z and accept that A B and C are true and never do THIS and always do THAT then this would be a perfect world!

Then I recalled a couple paragraphs I read just recently:

-------------

It was about a guy named Ted who is being looked at for a promotion he is well qualified for, but passed over because "Ted's big limitation was this: he expected perfection in other people.  Ted was annoyed by many little things, like mistakes in grammar, people who were messy with cigarettes, people who had bad taste in clothes, and so on."

So Ted was given three suggestions:

1.  Recognize the fact that no person is perfect.  Some people are more nearly perfect than others, but no man is absolutely perfect.  The most human quality about human beings is that they make mistakes, all kinds of them.

2.  Recognize the fact that the other fellow has a right to be different.  Never play God about anything.  Never dislike people because their habits are different from your own or because they prefer different clothes, religion, parties, or automobiles.  You don't have to approve of what another fellow does, but you must not dislike him for doing it.

3.  Don't be a reformer.  Put a little more "live-and-let-live" into your philosophy.  Most people intensely dislike being told "you're wrong." You have a right to your own opinion, but sometimes it's better to keep it to your self.

After applying these principles consciously for a few months, Ted had a new outlook on life.  He now accepts people for what they are, neither 100 percent good nor 100 percent bad. "Besides," he says, "the things that used to annoy the heck out of me I now find amusing.  It finally dawned on me what a dull world this would be if people were all alike and everybody was perfect."

-------------

WHEW! So it's ok that people are all different, perhaps even to the extent that they make "mistakes" as in  posting pictures that end up getting them identified.   We look for different types of people, we advertise in different ways, we show or do not show different things, perhaps even we do or do not participate in "drama" on this board.  Perhaps there ARE "Best Practices" but maybe that varies by what one's life situation, short and long term outcomes are for being here.

So here's another thought:  Does the lack of endless "aliases" affect our expression?  I don't know.  I do appreciate that I might still be able to post a thought which is informative or somewhat revealing and not have it attached to my reviews and other known things about me, but I also suspect that for some people this new policy has considerably cut back on the snide or negative comments they used to feel more free to express.

What are YOUR thoughts?  :-)  Best Practices?  Live and Let Live Philosophy?  Aliases?  Guess I mentioned a few things today!!!

BTW...just in case you noticed that this book addressed "men" and "fellows" it was published over 50 years ago.  Ladies, we are not exempt from needing to consider these things, lol!

It's GOOD TO BE HOME!!!!

P.S. I realize that the article was really about child trafficking, something I actually DO want LE and all of us to use any means necessary to prevent!  But it also made me think:  how many consenting adult escorts get "outed" in this same way?

My basic thought is that this board isn't, or at least shouldn't, be like a political board, where there are two opposing sides to almost everything. Seems like we're all in the same philosophical party, at least on one issue.

As for your example with Ted, too many examples came to mind in my personal iife where I think that "evil exists because good men do nothing."

Nobody's perfect, but there are a lot of bad people in  the world. You know, "The world is a bad place, a terrible place to live ..."

"Can't we all just get along?"

Gawd, I'm starting my own cliche thread.

Welcome home! :)

I would love for my wife to read that, but she wouldn't think it applied to her.....
Have a good day everyone, and relish the differences.

IMOH, words to live by. The definition of "not be nice" is a little different, though! :)

Best practices?  Remember your manners and be polite

Live and let live philosophy?   Fine idea in theory but in reality the problem is you run into too many people who are the opposite so sometimes it doesn't work

Aliases?  For the most part, I thought they were used to cause more trouble than they were used for good cause.  We'll have to see how the policies work.

I agree, but have caveats:

1) Life is short; don't waste time.
2) Don't worry about things you can't do anything about.
3) Don't get mad, take action or let it go.
