Freedom Isn't Free
by Major Kelly Strong

I watched the flag pass by one day
It fluttered in the breeze
A young soldier saluted it, and then
He stood at ease

I looked at him in uniform
So young, so tall, so proud
With hair cut square and eyes alert
He'd stand out in any crowd

I thought how many men like him
Had fallen through the years
How many died on foreign soil?
How many mothers' tears?

How many Pilots' planes shot down?
How many foxholes were soldiers' graves?
No - Freedom isn't free

I heard the sound of taps one night,
When everything was still
I listened to the bugler play
And felt a sudden chill

I wondered just how many times
That Taps had meant "Amen"
When a flag had draped a coffin
Of a brother or a friend

I thought of all the children,
Of the mothers and the wives,
Of fathers, sons and husbands
With interrupted lives

I thought about a graveyard at the
Bottom of the sea
Of unmarked graves in Arlington.
No - Freedom isn't free!

Thanks to those who never forget what many have sacrificed for the sake of others so that they may experience what so many take for granted.  No, freedom is not free -

Thanks Kari!

from a combat Marine still serving ....

Thank you Kari.
From a Minnesota soldier in Iraq. I look forward to giving myself a very nice welcome home present in the fall

Thank you Kari!  I will resist the need to get political about the war in Iraq because I don't think this is the place for it.  So I will just say it is very nice to honor those who are putting their lives on the line every day to protect our freedoms at home.

Yes we must always honnor the solder, for he is a brave man (or woman) serving his country.
Wars start for many reasons, but a solders job is always the same.  To do his duty for his country.
whether you are for the war or against the war, Please join us in honoring those that given this country all they could in this world.  As they have gone to the next duty assignment with God.
