As a hobbyist things are pretty bleak in Iowa unless you go to DesMoines. Even there your choices are limited and that is why I usually travel to the Twin Cities.

One problem is that unless I am in a larger city, I am always worried about someone I know seeing me go in or out of a hotel/motel even 40 or 50 miles away from home. Just one of the perils of living in a rural area.

From a providers point of view, if done right, you could find a largely untapped market. Give it a try and see what happens.

Hello ter this is Ava Davis. I was wondering if anyone knew anything abour Iowa or how things are out there for the provider/hobbyist world. I was considering taking a trip there and I am wondering if anyone could give me some info about it. It would be greatly appreciated. Look forward to everyones feedback.

DSM is the only place with anything going on that I noticed.

All I can say about Iowa is this. Every *#&@ time I have to drive through that damn state I seem to get speeding tickets. Why? Because the sooner I can get through that god awfully boring state the better. Assuming your driving, why not head down 94 instead of 35 and go to Chicago? Hell even Milwaukee is a grade above that entire state. Plus I think they still have that restaurant with the dolphins don't they? Eating while watching dolphins play, or staring at endless fields of corn.

And yes I am bitter seeing as I seem to constitute 10% of their budget revenue due to the amount of tickets I have had to pay over the years.

Please keep driving through good old Iowa. I am sure the extra revenue is much appreciated.

I used to say the same thing about Nebraska, at least the boring part. Then I started getting off the interstate and saw some much more interesting country.

Yes I think they do like the revenue stream I provide, much like Albert Lea loves me as well. At least I learned NOT to rent faster cars. Drove through Nebraska several times when I was young, actually did not find it as boring as Iowa, in fact I think I might have enjoyed it some. At least Nebraska has some trees and hills, unlike the long boring corn fields of Iowa.

Ava, if you do go to Iowa, bring a book...or two, or three.

on my way to Minnesota.. If you head down there PM, call or email me and I can give you a little help.  I have met some very nice gents in DM and have the perfect little discrete hotel there.

Also, if you head down you may think of stopping in Mankato and either Albert Lea or Clear Lake.  There are some amazing people that live in the middle of nowhere as well.  :)
