Man, 37, charged in brutal Minneapolis rape, torture

Authorities on Thursday charged a 37-year-old man with the brutal rape and torture of a woman in northeast Minneapolis last winter.

xxxx is jailed in lieu of $1 million bond after being charged with first-degree criminal sexual assault. His arrest on Tuesday came more than nine months after the rape allegedly took place. Authorities said that they identified xxxx by matching a sample of his DNA from a statewide database to the DNA found in the victim.

According to a search warrant, xxxx contacted the woman, who had placed an online sex ad on Backpages.com, and arranged for her to meet him at a house in the Beltrami neighborhood early last December. He took her inside and led her down a long hallway, where he bound her arms and legs with rope and duct-taped her mouth before sexually assaulting her, police said. When she fought back, police say, he stabbed her in the neck and back, and burned her with a “blowtorch-like device,” according to court filings.

The woman was found later bleeding heavily on the steps of a nearby church and taken to Hennepin County Medical Center for a sexual assault examination. xxxx has prior convictions, including a criminal sexual assault case that authorities say bore a striking resemblance to the latest assault.

He is expected to make his initial appearance in Hennepin County District Court on Friday.

It's a shame it took 9 months to catch him, but at least he's behind bars now.

Legalization won't happen anytime soon, but there's another way...

... to help protect sex workers from violence:  prosecutors and LE should make it crystal clear that any violence against sex workers will be vigorously prosecuted, and the sex workers who are victims of such crimes will get immunity from prosecution and their identities will be protected.  

That might cause low lifes like this guy to think twice before harming a provider and encourage more providers to report such crimes to LE.

Yeah im all for punishing them as tough as you can but i doubt that would stop it. If someone has mental issues, i doubt they will stop and think first.

I think the answer is to legalize the industry (finally..) and then have police do what we want them to do in the first place and crack down on underage trafficking ONLY. Let the adults play as they want to in safe zones.  

It works great in many other countries. Even in Nevada it works.  

The US government tried to keep the Mustang Ranch in operation back in 1990 before it could be sold at auction for IRS dues.  

So they were ok with it then but now if you try and legalize it in other states oh man watch out.

Reminds me of 1929 when Harry Anslinger was put in charge of the Department of Prohibition in DC. He had nothing to do and even said pot wasnt a problem. It doesnt harm
people he said "Theres no more absurd fallacy" then the idea it makes people violent.

But then suddenly his department was going to lose money because they had nothing better to do, He switched streams and said you will fall into a delirious rage and go insane if you smoked it lol. We better make it illegal.

Which is where Reefer madness movie crap came out of.  

Well finally that is getting overturned state by state.  

 The government has no business standing between two adults just wanting to have fun. Legalization needs to be out in the open (no pun intended) for discussion.

I'm with you all the way knotsaway. It likely won't make these perpetrators stop but it will encourrage providers to come forward & get these sociopaths behind bars.  

Nothing will get done however if we civilians sit idle & do nothing. We need to contact our lawmakers & demanding laws with stiffer penalties as well as guaranteeing providers (male & female) immunity from prosecution when fallen victim to violent crime.

This guy is scheduled to appear in court the 21st of October. Perhaps this is an opportunity for citizens to rally together & have our voices heard?

I agree LChayse, however still the safest thing possible with security guards for the ladies with be a red light zone like other cities. Could you imagine that in Minnesota too? Safety for the providers and for the customers.

I think what should be done is to set up a fund somewhere and hire legal representation to challenge the state. People could donate anonymously. This is probably the only way it will ever get challenged.
