A certain percentage of provider name changes have to be driven by law enforcement actions.

In any event, I (as a hobbyist) have never been caught in a sting operation.

However, I had a hobbyist friend (or two) caught in the infamous "Minnesota Nice Guys" sting from early summer-time of 2009.

Note:  One of the friends was "Minnesota Nice Guys" ringleader. The other friend was charged with gross misdemeanor soliciting.

So how many girls do you think you have seen? I'm new to this and want to be careful.

I have been in the hobby since May of 2007. I clearly remember all of my encounters. I have seen (approximation for this message) 30 different providers.

As far as safety (i.e., careful), I probably could never give you enough advice to maintain full safety.

One of the first providers I met admonished me with the phrase:  "There is nothing safe in the hobby."

However, all of the measures (e.g., screening, reviews) providers and hobbyists utilize can significantly reduce unwanted outcomes.

Note:  Law enforcement actions (i.e., stings) require a lot of time and resources for a police department. Thus, they are fairly rare in occurrence. A provider or hobbyist has to make a huge mistake (or series of mistakes) in judgment in order to face legal consequences for their actions in the hobby.

And even then trying to get a good idea of how many providers and hobbyists there are is another question all together.  But if you read the news stories you will notice that the most commonly the police run a sting and arrest people who show up for an appointment.  Most of the time there is no actual escort involved in this; they use undercover cops to pose as the provider.  Do providers who have been busted ever work with LE to help catch hobbyists?  Yes but word gets around if she's been turned.    LE can get any of us if they decide they want to invest the resources to do so.  But they only have so many resources available and they usually get the most bang for their buck running stings based on fake ads on Backpage.  They nab the low hanging fruit.  Don't be low hanging fruit and the odds are in your favor but also never think you are invincible.

And if you do get arrested, remember your 5th Amendment rights.  Don't lie but beyond identifying yourself you don't have to answer any of their questions and it is in your interests not to do so.
