StarTrib article on licensing of massage parlors

I don't think I need to state the obvious as to why either.

Interesting quote from the police: "We're starting to see an increase in [prostitution]. We've made some arrests. I don't know if [the new ordinance] will stop prostitution, but it's an additional tool."

So there is no indication that it will do anything to prevent any illegal activity, but let's go ahead and pass another phony law to make it look like we (police) are doing something.  Nevermind that it requires a business $500 - one-time fee and then $300 annually as well as $100 one-time fee and then $50 annually for each worker.  Anyone else tired of all the do-gooders?  Pass enough laws, and you won't be able to leave your house one day without breaking a law in some form.  Ridiculous.

I've got an idea:  How about if the police go out an patrol neighborhoods and prevent burglaries, drug dealing, robberies, etc.

as someone who does work on both sides of the spectrum I pay about the same fees for st paul all it does is prevent the legitimate massage therapists from making a profit. If anything this causes a problem & isn't practical economically for the therapists.
Just another way for them to make money off poor people IMO, I wouldn't be surprised if Mpls follows suit sooner than later because there's been talk of doing such for awhile now.

The point they're trying to make is they're sick of AMP's popping off the trees laundering funds back home  (they kind of are) & a lot of it is "concerned citizens " A.K.A. old bitties complaining that they can't tell the difference between the two even though they NEVER get a damn massage anyway on top of that bs there's the ignorant notion that they bring other crimes to the area.
I had no idea a bunch of older white gentlemen visiting ladies simply wanting table showers with a R&T could cause such a crime problem & are so dangerous lol !
 Enjoy while you can fellas.

Boy, it sure is fun being an older gentleman. I would give my
left nut to be able to cause trouble, oh well.    mbshannon

Good point, MD.  In fact, I could see a "legitimate" massage business, watching its profits decrease, decide they need to add something to the service in order to make a profit.  These impotent, cosmetic local ordinances could actually drive people who don't want to mix massage with sensual attention to do so out of necessity.

I wonder if those folks even took into account how much an average legitimate RMT makes before they decided this ?
It's Just creating an unfairly desperate situation for legitimate RMT's & making room for those shitty massage envy joints to forever ruin a beautiful healing art. I had the worst massage ever there! Not kidding!

When st paul regulated their massage ordinances, the economy was much much different.
Cookie cutter solutions don't work. They'd be much better off to legalize the entire state & allow certain areas state wide for it to operate as I've said in the past.

Agree there 74152th.

It's about letting them make an easy statement that shows they are "tough on crime."  It doesn't hold up to scrutiny but until the public realizes how much a waste and misuse of tax dollars all this is, it will keep on happening.

This is nothing more than a local version of the political theater currently going on in Washington re gun control. Pass some new laws that will be totally ineffective so weak minded people will feel that their elected officials are hard at work protecting them from whatever.

This will make it harder for illegals to work at these places.

OK here's another myth I have to dispel,  when law enforcement or civies claim that there human trafficking going on at all AMP's without any real proof other than that they're Asian.
For a fact not all amp are full of trafficked workers. Just because they prefer their languages (Hmong Viet Thai whatnot
does not mean they're being trafficked.
Almost all are from here meaning American born or are here willingly & legally.
Doesn't make it harder at all actually. It just attacks legitimate MT's that are already struggling. :(
