Yes my friend, I have what might be a crucial tip for you.  When you are wandering up and down Bourbon street (in a drunken stupor like most perhaps) be very careful not to wander or get lured around a corner.  When I was there in '97, I saw the same guy 3 nights in a row showing anybody who would listen something.  People would shake their heads or otherwise motion negatively with their hands, finally I approached him and asked what the hell he was doing.  He told me that 4 or 5 nights earlier he and his family were down their partying, came to a corner with a lot of people and tried to go around them.  He was hit on the back of the head and knocked down, kicked twice and when he got up, his 20y.o. or so daughter was nowhere to be seen.  His wife had also gotten knocked down.  He had his wallet pic of her in his hand and was frantic.  New Orleans L.E. told him that these things happen often and there was a good chance she would turn up but to hit the streets and start looking himself!  I picked up a Sunday paper before I got on my plane to see if anything about it was in the paper, nada, although they had given the weekly homicide total.....21.  But that was a bit high because an off-duty cop working security @ a asian restaurant went beserk and shot the couple who owned it and a couple of patrons, then robbed it.  She (the officer) was shot leaving the premises-5 dead.  Nice town.

Sorry to be so long but that sidewalk meeting has stuck in my mind since then.  Also watch out for the really pretty streetwalkers at the end of Bourbon Street, they might be carrying a bigger package than yourself between their legs.  Have fun, its a crazy town!!!
