I would agree that if you use the phone a lot tracfone is expensive, as an ocassional use I feel it is a great deal, you can get a cheapy for for $20, a 250 minute card with 60 days of service for $50,they also have annual cards and more minute plans low as .10 minute and no way will I use those minutes up just for my hobbying, a 60 minute card w/60 days of service is $20, considering the disposabilty I think its cheap

How many hobbyists use tracfones, or similar exclusively for hobbying?

Got a tracfone.. but it is expensive for me.. use it a lot...LOL!!! Minutes are not cheap.. but not bad if you do a lot of txt msg....I think the best deal out there really is the T-mobile.. you can get a 1000 minutes for a pretty good price and the phone costs something like 80 bucks...
Bmac you have a specific question at all???

I use a trac phone and it's locked in the safe at work. It only sees the light of day when I'm scouting....

I'm looking into it and one question I had was the cards you buy at Welfaremart say they expire in a short amount of time. Are they all like that.  I'd rather buy a bigger card for less money and be able to use it for a year or whatever.
Also, I wasn't aware text messaging was available. Do you pay per message?
What brings this on is I had a provider call my cell a few days ago. This was a provider I had never got together with, but she kept saying we did, and she remembered me, blah blah blah. Fortunately, to SO wasn't around, but wouldn't like that to happen again.

Damn!, My SO busted my hidden email account, so I planning on usuing only my cell in the future.

I only access this site from my laptop and I never chack stuff from home anymore.

This hobby is expensive, although not as expensive as that "cheap ass" from CL almost was.

Compared to the cost of the consequences of being caught, the Trac phones are a bargain. I regret that when I started this crazy hooby that I gave my everyday cell # to a couple of providers...

When you need privacy, it's already too late.  Pay now or pay later, but the price later is much higher.

T-mobile asks for a name, so give them "a name" and a story.  It's all in the social engineering.

Wish I was affiliated with the URL below... I have all this guys books, they are priceless.

What I'm confused about a little bit is when I buy a phone, say Tracfone, do I need to always buy Tracfone cards?  I see a lot of different phone cards for sale on ebay, but can I use them with a Tracfone or TMobile phone?

You need to buy minutes specific to that cell phone provider... I will still say that tracfone is the most expensive.. in comparison to T-mobile... My only value in cost on tracfone is the txt msg it only costs .3 units to send and nothing to receive... but will say if you have an SO get another phone!

According to this website, Tracfone is less expensive than TMobile

Tmobile
Refill Card Amounts:
# $10.00 - 30 Whenever Minutes
# $25.00 - 130 Whenever Minutes
# $50.00 - 400 Whenever Minutes
# $100.00 - 1000 Whenever Minutes

tracfone

Refill Card Amounts:
# $19.99 - 60 units of airime
# $29.99 - 120 units of airime
# $49.99 - 250 units of airime
# $79.99 - 400 units of airime

Would seem to me that T-mobile is cheaper with these refill amounts..

In previous discussions there was talk about activating the phone at places that can't be tracked, like interenet cafe's.

Does this still apply to these kind of phones?

is that my tracfone is registered to Fletch and how the heck is he anyway….LOL!!!

Excellent, now another dumb question.  Where can I pick up a TMobile phone, I know Walmart has Tracfones, do they have TMobile?
Thanks for the great advice.
