Madison, as a general principle, I agree with what you're saying, that anonymity allows one to spout off indefensible drivel. But, I just recently became a big fan of aliases. While I haven't used one in the past, I may in the future... I recently had a rather costly bad experience with a provider who, it turns out, had bad feelings about a post of mine. Those kinds of bad experiences tend to turn you off to the hobby for a while, so they end up costing other providers money too. Next time, I think I'll consider "being pathetic and weak" for all our sakes.
It seems to me it's a two-way street. If you want me to be genuine and open in posting, and reveal my identity by using my real ID, then there has to be a "gentlepersons agreement" between us that controversial posts on my part won't be held against me or be used to screen me. As long as no such agreement is offered, the case for aliases will exist.
Again, I'm no "hider" myself... I've done an "inventory" and every provider I've seen except one knows the face/real name/phone number/e-mail behind my TER ID. The only one that doesn't isn't because I concealed it, it just never came up. (That one is a stunning tall blonde from the Twin Cities, BTW)
I don't know all the "whys and wherefores" behind some of the latest discussuions but ...... some of the people on this Board are pushing my patience.
If you are going to post an accusation, do NOT use an alias. The only reason I'm allowing it is because other people are jumping in with their posts. If you want to accuse, you best be ready to stand up to the heat that accompanies it.
I agree SRV, because if you are going to talk that kind of stuff, you need to back it up. I also noticed that Catherine may have thought it was a provider with an alias, and I want that cleared up. If you are going to come on here with serious accusations like that, you need to at least be a member. Guys have to remember that this board is at the very least partially responsible for our income. Those were very serious allegations, and I only think they should be taken seriously if they are posted by somebody who at least has an email address. I also think there should be a 24 hour waiting period before posts are allowed on the borad, people need to think before they post sometimes. Personally, I am getting really bored with this whole topic, and I highly doubt Catherine S. is LE (really that is just ridiculous).
If we did away with the entire alias as an option that would keep alot of crap off of here I think. If you have something to say.......dont hide, that truly is pathetic and weak.
