I attended the Twins game and was looking to find someone hosting downtown(visiting or not). There was not only nobody available but there are zero ads even posted. Come on Mayor Frey, attract some pros to our city!
...reminds me of an iconic scene out of A Bronx Tale where Sonny is having Calogero to throw the dice for him. Pathetic and fat Mush shoves his way into the betting and Sonny bans him from the game and tells his goons to lock him in the bathroom because everything Mush touches turns to shit.
Why? Because you're a fucking jinx, I don't want your money touching my money.....put him in the fuckin' bathroom!
But they are adding more bicycle lanes to make it easier to to get around and many buses and trains to drop you of and pick you up within a mile of where you want to be or leave from.
People who make minimum wage are able to find and pay for parking. So I find it hard to believe you have a hard time affording and finding parking. You come off as cheap.
I dont think it really has to do with the parking for most of the people.
If has to do with what you see on the streets. Plus you do understand that most traveling ladies when they have down time might not want to see what is on the streets in the downtown area. They also hear how it isn't as "safe" as it used to be. Which could be another factor. Then add in the construction and also chaos of possibly finding parking. I am coming from the view point of a client: Imagine coming from "outstate" to see a provider downtown. You are not familiar with downtown like you are with the suburbs....ie: parking ramp locations and what not. So you do a google maps to get your route to the location. Then come to find out about all the construction and get twisted and turned around. Could add another 20+ mins of your time just to find parking to go see someone. So with just that compared to say someone at the MOA area or a suburb hotel... where you drive to it.. .park in the lot and go in. Not to mention if there is any fee to parking in a ramp downtown added on to the experience. Where the suburbs hotel is free. Just saying this coupled with the scenes on the street turn off clients and possibly providers. Plus all the reports of car break ins and thefts as well. Now I am not saying this isn't starting to spill into the burbs. Last provider I saw when I arrived at the hotel there was police there along with homeless people wandering around the parking lot. I believe the police were there to deal with that issue. Which when I left after the appointment the homeless and police were gone.
Statistically, 7/10 pre covid workers DT are only in the office ONE day a week. If everyone worked DT the same day, that still leaves 30% of parking spaces left. It's not that hard to find a garage. I popped in DT mpls garages and look how many popped up. According to the Strib (https://m.startribune.com/downtown-minneapolis-parking-ramp-rates-increase-inch-higher-hybrid-commute/600281422/?clmob=y&c=n&clmob=y&c=N). As of April, only 40% of garages are occupied at average peak usage. There are spaces.
By car. 10 minutes/2.6 miles, and there's always lots of free street parking right there.
My neighborhood is also pretty safe. It's just an old fashioned city neighborhood with mostly single family homes and a few apartment buildings scattered around. It's the best!
