I read that law enforcement asked those caught to lead them to known providers. The press conference also indicated that the operation was a multi-step program.
If law enforcement wanted known providers couldnt they just open up Tryst or Eros or Sumosear on their web browsers?
I'm guessing law enforcement could use the cooperating John as a tool. Since the John is already verified with providers, the cooperating John can easily get through the screening process and collect evidence for the city/county attorney. This scenario happened years ago to shut down a prostitution ring in Boston if I recall correctly. The cooperating John helped take down an organization to protect his own life. I'm sure many Johns would do the same if their job/family/name was on the line.
That said, agencies/groups are easy targets whenever law enforcement and government attorneys are hungry. Government agencies aren't going to spend a bunch of taxpayer funds to take down an independent provider.
There is video of one guy who came in with a gift outfit for the decoy to wear. Not a good day at all. By they way, if you agree to a massage why is that not legal? If you do not agree to pay for play then legally I am not sure what they can charge.
I always thought that there would have to be an exchange P4P before they could arrest. What is weird is I have a female friend that ran a real therapeutic massage place, no nookie. A guy comes in one day; he's never been to one. He didn't know that you take your clothes off like most therapeutic massage places. So the therapist massaged his glutes, who doesn't like that, lower back, etc., where much of our pain is. He screams that she is trying to touch his dick. He goes over to the cop station, which was like two blocks. They investigated her for prostitution...they sent a cop undercover, and nothing happened. I liked this place so much (best therapists) that I would give massage gift cards as tips.
That's part of why someone in that situation should always lawyer-up. LE wants you to admit to something. Don't say something to convict yourself.

Local police agencies were probably awarded funding from the Federal Government to curb human trafficking. In order to maintain funding, local agencies probably need to present ROI data to the Federal Government.
This bust aimed for Johns who responded to a legally aged person. Wish law enforcement put more effort going after real human trafficking, carjackers, violent offenders, loiterers, outstanding warrants, and reckless drivers.
I'm going by what the media has mentioned. A public motel gross misdemeanor is five years in prison and a ten grand fine. But still, guys everywhere go to public Hotels.
Here's the funny part, three guys were carrying guns; I think one was a felon. One guy drew his weapon on the cops. LOL. On one website, they mentioned they got 211 inquiries in two days.
24 "johns" responded to a fake add. 3 of them had weapons. 1 was wanted on a felony charge. Not a bad day for the Bloomington police. The worst thing about this is that--to my knowledge--none of those arrested were politicians, police officers or clergy.

But the johns will only be busting providers that agreed to see them - who were also unscreened, of course, which, once again, is why smart people only see ladies who screen. The cops don't screen. Screening is the best protection against something like this.
I'm sorry, but the line that cops won't ask for PII is getting old. It's been said so many times that mongers should just take it for granted that if they're asked to send a pick of their ID or share soc media links, it's for the good of all involved and most likely above board.

If a new, shiny object shows up on in local ads, especially listing competitive or under market rates, your "clients" will quickly become the mongers you hold in contempt. But you are right, it's hard to resist the bright shiny new object for some guys and asking for screening is not 100% guaranteed.
However I still think it's a lot safer, most of the time.
So, it's quite reasonable to assume when your email gets hacked, all (yes, even the "deleted") the data is there to be harvested by a hacker who's next trick will be reappearing as an extortionist. I was hoping you had said at minimum, spending the $5=$10/month for a VPN which would dramatically reduce the odds of this happening.
That said, you're the first provider who has actually honestly answered the question that has been asked several times. Thank you for that.

Nobody gets a 5 yr sentence in these cases as this is a misdeameanor offense. Fine, and some mandatory sex trafficking lecture is generally the sentence. Your grandmother sounds like a sailor .
I really don't know but I've seen a hell of a lot of talk about public places, felonies etc. What I do know is how LE operates as well as busted perps scared AF with ONE thought in their minds...how can I get out of this? The guys with all of their faculties intact will stfu and lawyer up but many others will THINK they see an escape door by fully cooperating.
The trade off of turning against any known ladies, giving up everything you have and getting blackballed from the local hobby scene you were accustomed to as worst case scenario or facing unknown legal consequences and potentially blowing up your life, job and any relationship you may be in. I think that the law was changed some time ago about public spaces and prostitution. Cars, malls, Hotels/motels, and others... it's a Gross Misdemeanor now. 469.125, subdivision 4
I spent some time looking into the matter this evening and from what I have found from the 2022 Minnesota statutes and some other reading is the max penalty here would be a year in jail and a $3K fine and probably substantially less for a 1st offense. Of course, I am no lawyer so I could easily be wrong.

He wanted the penalty to be like ten years for the second offense. There was talk about having that offense on your ID or driver's license...damn

I'm sure these guys were busted before they entered the room, and here's why. The media said around 200 inquiries in two days, so LE had to pick out the easiest. This might work under MN law; in many states, it does. I've seen this often with escorts; they might be doing it because the info is on their site etc., and they want to avoid playing with carrots. They will not quote any rate by inquiries.
LE is very good at getting a potential client by phone, text, or e-mail to clarify that you will get some nookie. Or an idiot will say something like does a couple of franklins get me ABC? Then the cop will say yes, they probably came in and walked by some LE immediately. But when they stepped into the room, you paid and were handcuffed. I wondered how the one guy could start pulling his firearm out. So, one lesson is not to ask. In some states, if you offer money for nookie, it's ten years in prison as a child predator. In MN, they still go back to trying to increase it.
Perhaps the guy who tried to pull his gun out wanted to rob the provider he thought he was going to see.
It's early morning, so I hope this is readable. Remember, there have been prostitution legal seminars before. Local lawyers have been arrested in stings. They will say a few things since it was in a public hotel ( Section 609.324, subd. 2. They will try for a gross misdemeanor if they have had a prior conviction within two years. There is a good chance that most guys in this situation have had one. Often, LE will throw in a text: "oh hey, I'm 15 y.o., is that ok? Usually, that comes at the end; I call that the hook....Felony. subjective interpretations of others' behavior (prone to bias),
a series of speculations,
to presume the other person's "intent."

Police and prosecutors often target disfavored people and classes. Even in this situation, they will try to get the guy to make a statement afterward. This is where the first question comes out, which will be, "Are you married?" Because of your wife, and do you have kids?" He's scared now because of his SO and others finding out...its an advantage for them. He thinks all these people are going to find out...shaming him. But by then, they have already run your info thru the system to find out that; they want you to say it. Another tactic is the non-guilty. They charge you on weak evidence and try to get you to talk. One or two LE is better at integration, but they might switch around on you.
This same tactic is used against everybody, even known escorts, and clients. There have been well-known escorts that have quit because of the continuing contact. It's been a while, but LE discovered her natural life income/investments and tried to use that. There were no arrests or tickets during the initial contact. But make sure if LE does come to your house, you hand them your lawyer's card and tell them to contact them...DONT talk to them or try to talk your way out. Too many people open their mouths...damn
Sentencing Entrapment is applied when police manipulate the defendant to increase the severity level of the crime. Police lead a sting target to a place expecting someone 18 or older.
