Great MN Get Together...

To lighten up our regional board a bit, let's chat about one of MN's best attributes: the state fair! It's officially back and happening with no restrictions or capacity limits. Traditionally, most people grab their wallet/bag, some comfy shoes, and ditch the silverware for fair food (the giant egg rolls... yum) for 12 days.

However, I'm curious if any of you will be going given so many breakthrough infections, the Delta variant, etc. If so, what are you most looking forward to?

Not going because of the Variant but just not going.
Both last summer and this summer have been around crowds outdoors multiple times weekly and myself and others have been Spared the anguish of the virus . Seems that one is more at risk inside where contact with someone lasts more then a few seconds.

In a non-pandemic year, I hit the State Fair at least twice, sometimes three times.  Guessing I’ll dial it back to once this year and likely mask up.  But I couldn’t bear to miss the following again this year:
- Food (Pronto Pup, Corn, Cheese Curds, Sweet Martha’s Cookies & Milk and at least one random ‘on a stick’ item)
- Miracle of Birth
- Butter sculptures
- Crop art
- Giant Slide
- Sky Ride
- Music at the Leinie Lodge
- Machinery Hill
- Buying one ‘As seen on TV’ item in the Merchandise Mart, likely a salsa maker since mine finally crapped out during the pandemic

Can’t wait to get a corn on the cob too!

I usually don't, but I have had a blast going to festivals this summer. Anyone want to party?

If you look at other Fairs that have gone on in the last month the Anoka fair ended early due to huge fights and another county fair in SE MN last weekend had a bunch of issues as well.
I can imagine the fair being a huge entertaining shit show with a zillion people with nothing better to do. I always wondered what would happen if they majorly rose ticket prices to cut down attendance, would it actually cut down attendance? They can't only allow vaccinated people in (like this weekends Lollapooza), that would take way to long to get in.

Yes! I'm going, I may be masked. If the variant gets really bad, I will follow what ever is suggested by the local health recommendations.

Those HUGE Que Viet Village House restaurant egg rolls from their fair booth are the best! Btw you can get them the rest of the year too at their restaurant near St. Anthony.

I had known about this a few months ago, then you'd have been my new favorite person. Alas, I have started training for a fitness competition in 2022 in two different categories and my trainer would probably murder me by doing line drills at the gym (f.k.a. "suicides"). I get a couple days during the state fair as cheat days... so I'll enjoy the giant egg roll while I can.

Cheat days are always good when worked in appropriately to balance a rigorous training schedule. For me it was as much a mental break as it was from a physical break. The state fair is a mighty fine choice for those days : D Stay safe!

I got a bad feeling the fair will be cancelled at the last minute due to variants concerns.

Too much work has already been done to cancel less than one month out.  I think it’s much more likely that masks will be required except when eating/drinking, plus there’ll be lots of hand sanitizer stations. With so many people in the region still not vaccinated (including everyone under 12) or with immunity from having the disease, plus the big crowds and lots of indoor sites there, I think that’s going to happen.

Just waiting to see what comes out of the Biden Whitehouse.  Things could pop pretty soon.

… so he’ll probably advise Walz to go ahead.

I had a flashback of getting food poison and hacking my gut out on the north side of the midway

Wouldn’t miss it.
My kids and family love going together.
And I can’t miss my Fried Green Tomatoes!
Hope you all have a fantastic time!!
I think the tickets are already on sale at Cub Foods.

I was talking about a related event with a friend yesterday.... while I won't be attending because I'm no longer in MN, here are some things to consider....

.....some people simply won't go because of fear of exposure to the virus

....but a bigger impact is likely the secondary effects of the virus:  how many have left MN?  how many can't afford to go this year because of the economic impact?  And how many will just stay at home because that's what so many have gotten used to?

Exactly, would rather give the 13$ admission fee to the homeless veteran standing by the stoplights.

That is if work doesn't keep me out of town and I can take you up on that State Fair special you have going on. It'd be my first one. Who better to be my guide and my dessert?

Going to pass on it this year.  Feel like it might be more of a zoo this year than usual.  Seems the older I get the less I enjoy crowds and lines.  Plus I've had a few mini-donuts and cheese curds and corn dogs at the stand that's been in Menards parking lot.  Will miss the people watching tho !!

That is what one provider called the “State Fair Five”
Myself could see a massage provider for what I  can eat at the fair in a day there.
